This weekend the Bascom art center opened an exhibit of the work of Art Rosenbaum which includes large canvases depicting Southern musical gatherings in various cultures. From African-American RIng Shouts to Appalachain Fiddle and Banjo gatherings, Rosenbaum reveals his true interests.
A retired member of the Art Faculty at the University of Georgia, heis true love was collecting the oftenunrecorded tunes and words of the vernacular South. Coupled with his accomplished Banjo picking, he has contributed significantly tothe preservation of American musical history.
His wife Margo faithfully photographed he backwoods scenes he used for subject matter.
The Bascom has 3 exhibits going on at most times and it's building, an old log barn, is well worth a visit.
