This was our third visit to Fire Mountain, and it was spectacular, as usual. We were warmly greeted by Innkeepers Hiram and Mathew as we drove up Happy Hill Road. Within about 10 minutes, we were unloaded and nesting our cabin (Galax). We brought our own food and drink, as we both enjoy cooking and relaxing at the cabin, rather than eating out (but there are some FABULOUS restaurants in the area).

Our mornings were spent on our porch, in rocking chairs with coffee, followed by a hot and DELICIOUS gourmet breakfast (homemade biscuits, anyone?), nicely packed up in a picnic basket. We have very high standards with regards to cuisine, and this was superb. You pay a little extra for this delivery, but I recommend doing this at least once. The restaurant is great spot, as well -- to mingle a little with other guests, and peruse the library.

We spent our days hiking on trails which were chosen upon the specific recommendations of our extremely knowledgeable innkeepers. One day we spent on waterfall trails, the next day was all beautiful vista view trails.

Our evenings were spent exploring the vast property on foot, and relaxing in "the red chairs" while enjoying the incredible sunsets and bonfires. Later, we enjoyed our meals in our fully-loaded comfy cabin, with a lovely fire (wood provided by Fire Mt.).

My only complaint :) is that time passes too quickly up there, and before we knew it, we were driving back to the grind. But the memories and photos remain, and we hope to get back up to our Happy Hill before too many more weeks pass.

A very enjoyable, relaxing, beautiful rejuvenating location. Accomodations are immaculate, breakfast interesting every day. Our host Matthew was knowledgeable about the area, provided us with a wealth of options for our daily routine. The views are phenominal and I would return for each season.

Fire Mountain is a gorgeous retreated nestled in a spectacular hilltop setting. I've visited for the past three years, and always found the time spent there relaxing, rejuvenating, and awe-inspiring. The hosts and proprietors take extremely good care of the guests -- they are extremely attentive to detail, pen little welcome notes, leave little biscuits for the dogs, etc. But they also respect their guests desire to enjoy the quite solitude of the mountains and so you can very well go some days at Fire Mountain without seeing them (or anyone else!) (Unless you want to, of course -- they are fully committed to making your stay just unforgettable). Fire Mountain is within easy distance of wonderful hikes (on the AT, or Bartram Trail), and sight-seeing. But I love just staying on the Mountain and relaxing -- reading a book on a hillside, walking amid the fields. The place is really wonderful, and I'm happy to have made Fire Mountain part of my life -- and am already looking forward to returning next year.

My husband and I wanted a getaway to enjoy the beautiful views, relax and enjoy outdoor activities. Reading the reviews, Fire Mountain sounded like the perfect getaway and we were not disappointed. Matthew gave excellent suggestions for hiking, biking and dining. The property was beautiful, peaceful and exactly what we were looking for. March is not the in-season time for the area, but the lack of crowds was great! Reservations were not necessary at wonderful restaurants nearby. Expect a delicious, full, gourmet breakfast. We will definitely return to enjoy Fire Mountain!
