A busy pub like restaurant run well with excellent servers. Nice beer selections plus tasty food. Did lunch there twice.

“Atmosphere, Food, and Service Outstanding!!”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

My husband and I decided to take a short weekend getaway to the Highlands. We brought our fifteen-month-year old daughter and were uncertain about where to dine as we wanted to be conscientious of having a small child, but also wanted to be able to enjoy ourselves and have a good meal since that's what a good vacation is all about in our book! When we arrived outside the Ugly Dog Pub, we looked at the menu and knew the food was going to be better than the average "pub food." When we walked in, we were impressed with how clean, warm, and welcoming the venue was! Not only did it carry a very cool and inviting vibe with the hard wood floors, comfy banquet booths, and funky and upbeat dog portraits throughout the bar, but the service and food were exceptional. Our waiter, Robert, was not only friendly and helpful, he was extremely knowledgeable about the handcrafted beer selection. And he steered us to the best eats on the menu -- the spicy macaroni bites were creamy with just a touch of heat and the pesto chicken sandwich and rise and shine burger were to die for!!! An awesome mix of flavors that was complimented fabulously by some very tasty local brews! What really made our night was when the owner, Kay, came over to our table and greeted us and our little girl. She was genuinely thrilled to see a little one in her restaurant and even brought her crayons, coloring sheets, and a stuffed puppy dog to snuggle with, so we could continue to enjoy ourselves. We have traveled extensively and dined at many a fine restaurant, but our experience at the Ugly Dog Pub reaffirmed that you don't need a fancy five star menu to be a standout in the cuisine department. By the time we left, we had three different sets of patrons come up to our table and introduce themselves, saying they were locals and we had chosen well for our first night out in the Highlands -- when you get the locals' vote, you've got ours! Thanks to the Ugly Dog Pub for a great experience - we look forward to visiting again!

“Great burger, but only OK fries”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

We were staying at the Old Edwards Inn and this was right across the street and recommended by the staff. The dining area was very clean and we were able to sit immediately. Since we were just wanting a sandwich and not a fancy dinner, this place was great. We both had burgers and they were extremely tasty. I would pass on the seasoned fries, as they were over-seasoned and neither of us ate but a few of them. The prices were about what you would expect for a touristy town.

“just all right”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

We had lunch here, and the food was just over priced pub fare, not very good, and I left hungry. The atmosphere was cute, and it is probably a better place to go for a drink than for a meal. My husband had the hot dog sliders and I had a sandwich that was the day's special, and neither one of us ate much because it just was not very good. The atmosphere was cute, though, and the service was good.

“Stopped in for night cap”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

My wife and I were referred to this place by multiple people we ran into in and around Highlands.

I can't comment on the food, but the bar was well stocked. We sat at the bar and watched the Clemson vs. Ohio State Orange Bowl game. While I had a Bulleit Rye neat, my wife challenged the staff to come up with something original. The gentleman we were working with took on the challenge and after some dialogue he created a drink that was good. A bit sweeter than anticipated but we appreciated his enthusiasm. They do have the opportunity to develop some creative craft cocktails, if not just the classics.

Overall, very good experience.
