“take the nature trail...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

I advise that you walk the nature trail around the lake, ...especially in Spring when interesting plants are in bloom. It's a short walk from downtown. Town to there and around the lake and back is perhaps an hour and a half walk depending on if you stop for a picnic by the lake.

“Nature in the Mountains at its Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2013

We stayed for a week in a cottage within walking distance of the Biological Gardens and walked through gardens several times. Seven days in Highlands in the spring meant we got to enjoy a wide range of weather conditions. Walking in the gardens on a sunny day was very different from enjoying the shadows on a cloudy day after the rain. The trails offer a variety of walking options, and the native plants near the lake are different from the ones up the hill closer to the Nature Center. The trails are well maintained, and there are nice spots to stop to sit and observe. The trillium were in bloom and were magnificent. The ferns were just beginning to appear, and the tiny Solomon Seal flowers were peaking out. The different shades of green in the spring plants were absolutely gorgeous. The gardens provided a relaxing, rejuvenating experience each day.

“Worth the Visit”

Don't dismiss this place. For the area, it is very well done, educational and enjoyable. The exhibition area showcases the local fauna and flora. There are several trails that provide a very relaxing nature walk.

Various programs provided by an energetic staff.

Give it a visit.
