This is a fairly standard, local, "downhome" restaurant that is very popular with local people in Hendersonville and surrounding towns. It is the kind of place often called a "fish camp" by long-time North Carolinians. Service staff were friendly, funny, helpful, and quick to take orders and get food on the table. There is a standard but fairly extensive menu focusing on fried and broiled fish dishes with hushpuppies, coleslaw, and potatoes. The broiled and fried fish dishes are excellent. Chicken tenders are also provided as an alternative to fish. There is a children's menu. Portions are very large. Hushpuppies are moist and delicious (not the regular overdone offerings that many similar places serve). The coleslaw is excellent in an area where people are very particular about their coleslaw. Customers may selected French fries, baked potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, or French fried sweet potatoes. All of these are very good. There is an extremely limited wine list, and one suspects that most customers go for the traditional Southern house wine which is "sweet tea." Desserts are excellent. If you like this kind of inexpensive broiled and fried fish restaurant (and I do!), you will like Bay Breeze Seafood Restaurant and will enjoy a nice meal.

I had heard what a great restaurant it was, but I found nothing exceptional or even interesting about the meal. The kind of food you just dump ketchup on and get it over with.

Bay Breeze is very popular with locals. Arrive at 12:30 on Sunday and you will find the after church crowd in line about 20 feet inside, out the door and around part of the parking lot. The wait won't be as long as you think. Atmosphere? Not the fine dining type but clean and bright.
Service is always excellent. The menu is large with choices from small to huge. You can get one, two or three item combos. It must be a policy of the place to use serving plates a bit too small for the portion since plates are always piled high. As for sides, the slaw is always tasty and the hush puppies are well prepared in ring form. They resemble onion rings. The seafood is always fresh and hot. On the table you will find tartar sauce, shrimp sauce and catchup.

Typical items include shrimp, both jumbo and popcorn, Flounder, crab legs, Perch, Cod, Clam strips and much more. You can have your fish broiled or fried. We usually give in and order it fried for the wonderful taste. No fancy silverware here, just a good meal at a medium price.

I agree with another reviewer that the pay at the register on the way out can be an inconvenience. The line can get long. However you don't have to wait ten minutes for the wait person who "will be right back" to pick up your payment as in some places.

The after church crowd gets a 10% discount if you bring a bulletin from the church service.

We live in Hendersonville and are regulars at Bay Breeze.

Most of the fish seems to be fried, but it is yummy nonetheless, but sometimes a bit dry. Portions are huge. Don't order thelarge size unless you are 300lbs or plan to take half home with you. Service is spotty. The pay at the door on the way out is an inconvenience, but I guess they are trying to keep the tables turning as there is often a wait.
