Dandelion is a great new restaurant in Downtown Hendersonville! The "staff" at Dandelion is made up of interns, women who have been victims of domestic violence, but who are now learning skills that they can translate into jobs -- this allows the women "to evolve, take flight and spread, eventually landing elsewhere, to grow and prosper."

The service was excellent, as was the food! I ordered the grilled homemade pimento cheese, bacon, and tomato sandwich with a side salad with grilled peaches, pecans, and blue cheese. Some of us were interested in buying tubs of pimento cheese to go, but it wouldn't have left them enough to finish their lunch service.

Everyone in my large group thoroughly enjoyed their meal, and, even more, supporting this wonderful partnership that is beneficial to everyone involved!

This is a great place to pop in for lunch, order at the counter and they bring it to the table. The decor is refreshingly cosmopolitan for small town USA. The menu is somewhat limited, but I still had trouble deciding between the pimento cheese, fried green tomato and bacon or the curried cashew chicken salad. I loved, loved, loved the chicken salad!

The cafe is more than a cafe! It is actually run by a non-profit as a program for victims of domestic abuse.

Give it a try- we liked it!

PS- Save room for the gluten free cupcakes- they are to die for!

The Dandelion is a job training program of Mainstay, Hendersonville's domestic violence prevention organization. The food at the Dandelion is delicious and the atmosphere is beautiful! Breakfast and lunch are served Tuesday through Friday, with lunch on Saturday.
