“Don't know how to rate our experience”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We went as a group of six partly because we had also seen the sister restaurant in Brevard and liked to menu choices. This evening we where also going to the theatre (virtually next door). As an added incentive the restaurant was also offering a 15% discount to theatre goers somewhat like an early bird special rate).

As we arrived at the restaurant a couple where departing, they where obvious upset and commented to us, "Don't bother to go in, they have no service". We should have taken that as a warning but, we thought they had just had one of those rare experiences everyone has from time to time when things just don't work out.

We where seated immediately and order a round of drinks, a little while late our very nice waitress came by and took our order, we remarked to her about the comments from the departing couple and mention that we where going to the theatre and did not want to make a late entrance... this was around 18:30.

The evening progressed and time went by... no sign of our order, we called the waitress who said she would check with the kitchen , we ordered a second round of drinks... more time went by.. our waitress came back to say the kitchen had "lost" our order but she had told them to expedite it.

One hour later from the time we ordered our meal we received our salads etc. some 10 minutes or so later our meal arrived after one of our party had to go and check on it's whereabouts.

We now had under 30 minutes before the curtain was raised so we ended up in somewhat of a rush, but we made the show with a few minutes to spare.

Now, the good part... the meal once we got it on our table was very nice and well presented. Our waitress was pleasant and did her best to move things along. the problem was definitely in the kitchen and would hate to think what it would be like when the restaurant filled up.

Pricewise, we noticed the 15% discount only applied to the food, pre-tax. They also added an 18% tip based on the tax included total. Comments from our friends where positive except for the long wait. They also thought the wine pours where somewhat smaller than normal. The management did not offer anything by way of compensation for the wait... no complimentary drinks or deserts. But they did say if we came back for nightcap they would comp. a round of desserts... sorry but that doesn't cut it for me.

“Tried To Hard”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

This restaurant was ok. Everything seemed to be trying to hard on their menu, with either notations in french or fancy sauces/additions but to me the combinations just went a step too far. The appetizer and sandwich we got both seemed like they could have benefited from a little more siplicity.

The atmosphere was nice, but the food was just ok. I will skip this restaurant in the future, looking for other options next time I am in the area.

“Nice quiet place for lunch or dinner”
Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

I have been here several times both at lunch and dinner. Ingredients are fresh and service is good. Not the most exciting menu but food has always been good for me. My husband was unhappy with the turkey rueben though, saying it was very dry, and a vegetarian side dish was very tasteless.

“Clever, friendly, and classy”

Although dressed in casual clothes, we felt like royalty dining at the Sqaure Root! The food was delicious, and waitress was beyond sweet. A little pricey, but well worth the money!

“best salad ever”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We stopped by on our way back from our hike to Bridal Veil Falls late in the day. I ordered the Asian Shrimp Salad and it was so delicious. We sat outside and enjoyed the sights and sounds if Hendersonville before we strolled around the awesome town. The waitress was great and we will be back, next time we visit the Asheville area.
