We stopped in while checking out downtown Hendersonville and had a great time checking out the displays of minerals and dinosaur artifacts. The infrared/black light display was really cool. It’s the first exhibit when you come in. It shows the effects of different light on a variety of minerals and how they fluoresce.

A family was getting a geode cracked while we were there. The museum volunteers explained what we were seeing inside the geode in great detail. My husband and I learned a lot. It’s free, but donations or buying something from their amazing gift shop is a good idea. You can tell the volunteers enjoy what they do!

Found this cool spot online and decided to check it out. This is a small museum but I thought it was great. The different rocks were really interesting to look at and the kids had fun looking at the fluorescent rocks, dinosaurs and geodes. The highlight was buying geodes at the end and having them cracked open. The volunteers really took their time with the kids and made it fun and exciting. We purchased 5 geodes in total and enjoyed the experience of cracking them all open and finding out what different formations were inside. The kids have cool souvenirs that they got to help create and learned something at the same time!!

Located in the basement of the Hendersonville History Center, this museum has quite a collection of rocks and gems from around the world.

We enjoyed our visit very much. You may purchase, for a lack of the proper word, " special rocks" and they open them for you so you can see the treasure inside. My husband really lucked up and picked a unusual one. Me? Not so much but it was still fun. Some have formations and some have crystals. Very neat experience. The displays are beautiful. And the staff knew a lot about their minerals and types of displays. We will visit again.

This is a great place to visit the black lights bring a new dimension to gems. It was really neat. The kids found it very interesting. We bought some small rocks and also cracked a rock to see inside. They sell some hand made jewelry which was pretty. The staff told us a lot about the gems. Nice time
