“My Favorite HI Secret”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Almost thought NOT to write this review. After all, there are many restaurants that once, virtually unknown and fabulous, got the "word" and people begin to flock in numbers so the restaurant becomes challenged with seating and overcome with providing good service. Thankfully it's Fall and Hatteras Island is slowing down for winter's chill so vacationers are few and the locals know a good thing as Dinky's is my new personal HI favorite and I want too want to keep it a secret. We love The Inn at Pamlico Sound Buxton and Ketch 55 in Avon but the name Dinky's threw us off over the years and chose not to drive to the end of Hatteras to go there. That was stupid! We'll never judge a restaurant by its name again. The view from dining in Dinky's overlooking the soundside marina was amazing. Glad we got there 6ish for a terrific Fall sunset. Dinky's offers a great selection of wines and well stocked bar to help settle you in for views and wonderful dining. Traditional appetizers like Clams Casino and Oysters Rock are prepared well and a good lead in to locally caught Grouper, Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, etc. specials, if available, as fresh caught is subject to good weather. A local friend's recommendation of going Friday night for their prime rib special was the BEST testimony to Dinky's good food. 16 or 20 oz offering, it practically melted in your mouth. Grouper Parmesan encrusted was prepared spot-on and was flaky and delicious. With garlic mashed potatoes and steamed veggie sides, we topped it with a sublime coconut cream pie with caramel sauce. We managed to get into a food coma at Dinky's and not sure one can avoid it as the dining experience was awesome, a bit pricey, but so worth it. Always sad to leave Hatteras Island, a magical place, to return to reality, face winter and head into fast approaching Holidays but there's comfort in knowing our favorite restaurant will be there when we return, perhaps a tad more crowded now that I've let the secret out of the bag.

“Nice place..strange name.”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Had been thinking and looking at this place all week while on vacation, finally ended up there the last night. Odd little place..upscale, nice tables..had to wait a while in an empty eating section no less..finally seated. Good service..but for an upscale place the wait staff was a tad under dressed..not what I would have expected based on atmosphere and prices..polos and shorts..hmmm. Food was fantastic..I had the Chicken parmesan..holy wow, the crap cake was ok and the seafood stew was great. Pricey? yeah..not sure it was all worth the cost..mine was, but others not so sure. Also..if I wait 15 minutes for wait staff to come and even ask if I want the check..not so good...good overall choice..expensive, but pretty worth it.

“Nice little hidden Restaruant”
Reviewed October 12, 2012 via mobile

Stopped here for a drink and the food looked so good decided to come back the next night for dinner. For 4 of us it came to $185 which included a few beers and a couple appetizers. All four of us thought the food was outstanding. Everything from filet megnon to tuna to other sea foods. If I was from here I would definitely be going back. Staff was friendly and service was very good.

“Silly name for a good restaurant”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

After a disappointing meal the night before at a different restaurant,we were looking for some good seafood. The grouper in parmesan crust and the crab stack did not disappoint. Although somewhat pricey we don't mind paying for good food and drink. Service was prompt. Suggest a rebranding and name change. Dinky makes the restaurant sound like a dive which it is not!!

“Good restaurant !”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

We go to this restaurant at least once every time we spend a week in Hatteras. Great view. Good service. We usually go early as we are tired after a tough day at the beach. What we like to do is to order 2 pounds of steamed shrimp and 2 dozen steamers and 2 salads...and we roll on home. The specials are very generous also but we loves the shrimp and steamers.
