“not bad...but not great”

Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum

First off- it's a donation at the door, so you pay as you feel. I expected much more artifacts and pieces, more than just posters & lithos. Also it's a long drive from the nags head/KDH/Kitty hawk area- if you are going for that alone, you may be dissapointed. If you are going to take the ferry (next door) by all means take a stroll through. also it's closed on sunday. But remember, it's free so don't get too critical!

This museum is right next to the ferry landing for the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry. The admission is free. This is something to see while waiting for the ferry or on your return trip from Ocracoke. However this is not something you want to make a special trip for. Photography is not allowed inside the museum.

You will be very surprised at the time you will spend here. The museum covers everything about life on the sea off Hatteras Island since recorded time .... pictures, relics, pirates, Germans subs ..... it is all there!

We stopped here only because the ferry was not running due to high winds. Not exactly what we were expecting; however, it is okay for what it was. Would not make a special trip to visit, but if you are early for the ferry ( or late!) it is worth stopping in. It is very small and 30 minutes or so is more than enough time. Gift shop was nice and nice movie about NC lighthouses.

This place has odd hours, so check ahead. But well worth the time and effort to get there. They constantly have changing exhibits and the times we have been, they are also actively working on some items that were brought up from Blackbeards ship. Very interesting, a nice small gift shop, a fantastic opportunity to see a lighthouse lense up close, and free with a donation. Take some time and check it out!
