The Villas of Hatteras Landing

I am in rm 117 on the first floor. It is so musty I am all stuffed up. The bedroom is the worst!
Unfortunately no where else to stay in town tonight or I definitely would have aborted the stay.
Feb release didn't help.
Very expensive for what you get.
Drive on or ship out rather than stay at the villas.

Room Tip: If you are sensitive to mold or mildew don't stay. I contemplated sleeping my car!

We spent three nights here and for the most part enjoyed our trip.

Pros
The location- although it's a long drive from Nags Head we loved the peace and quiet here. We were able to walk on a pretty boardwalk to nearby stores and an ice cream shop. One night there was someone singing live on the deck which was fun. The sunset over the sound is beautiful and the walk to the beach isn't too far. It was nice to have a bedroom and the kitchen made it convenient to make our breakfast and lunch. The beds and pillows were comfortable.

Cons
The room was a typical motel room. Although it's updated, it still could use some work like painting, and although it seemed clean there was a weird musty smell. The wall ac was annoying and loud. When we opened the dishwasher the whole unit fell out of the space. The pool wasn't heated and was freezing and we didn't see a single person in it while we were there. It would be nice to have a hot tub.

I would probably recommend this hotel to friends, but would make sure they understand the up and downside of the place.

A tip for you...try to take the ferry to Ocracoke Island and spend the day. We really liked it there! Just be sure to be at the ferry early. We went at 11:00 and waited for almost two hours to load.
Also be sure to stock up on groceries at the Food Lion in Avon. The small store in Buxton was pricey.

You have to relax your housekeeping standards a bit, but the marina-side location can't be beat if your boat leaves before dawn! Moreover, the price is the same as the motels with smaller rooms and fewer amenities. Room 212 has a living room with sofa bed, two easy chairs, coffee table, TV, two table lamps, and a floor lamp. The open kitchen has three counter stools, single sink, convection microwave, full-size fridge, dishwasher, and the usual cups, glasses, flatware, etc. (I didn't cook & forgot to look for the pots & pans.) There's a coffeemaker and coffee (more coffee available at the front desk). There is a noisy but essential dehumidifier in a closet in the hallway to the bathroom & bedroom. The bathroom is a typical hotel bathroom with lots of counter space and good lighting. The bedroom has a large closet with mirrored sliding doors, about 6 hangers (none with clips), iron & ironing board, king bed, dresser, easy chair & ottoman, and a balcony (with 2 small chairs) overlooking the outdoor pool. Housekeeping issues: mold on the tub grout, mold growing on the coffee bag left in the coffeemaker, stains (probably from water damage) on the floor near the balcony. Towels were replenished daily, bed was made once, bathroom toiletries refreshed once. I stayed three nights and housekeeping must have mistaken the checkout date as my key card didn't work the last night. Front desk night clerk is very pleasant and helpful. The view over the marsh is lovely. One person in our group reported a fishy smell in her unit, and another person had a beeping noise in the living area that they staff couldn't identify or fix.

We spent a week at this property. We stayed in a 1 BR sound view on the first floor rm 120. There was a king bed, and a pullout couch. The kitchen has a fridge and a microwave that doubles as a convection oven we only used the microwave for heating water. The unit was nice it met our needs.

Next door there are shops a 1 minute walk as well as the ferry to Ocracoke. The pool was nice, on a windy day it is a good option, the way it is situated it blocks the wind. The beach is right across the street, 4 minute walk.

There are not a lot of eating choices in the area, we ate mostly at Harbour House seafood market, they prepare the food for you to go and we ate in our room or at the Marina next door where the shops are, the food there is outstanding.

A few tips

Take in the sunset at the marina, it is amazing
Groceries.. Stop at the Food Lion in Avon on your way down, it is about 20 miles away. there is a small grocery in town, the red and white, but you will get better proces and variety at the Food Lion.

the rates are very reasonable, I would recommend this property

Room Tip: no elevators so if you are planning to bring a lot a stuff, first floor is your best bet.

My husband and I stayed here the first week of April for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We just moved to D.C. and this was our first east coast vacation.

The place was nice. I was a bit upset that our "ocean view" was not at all. Also, wish we could have been on the second floor since there were only 3 other rooms taken that week. The weather wasn't that great so that was a bummer. But the hotel/condo was nice. Comfy and spacious for us since we live in a tiny studio. Nice having a kitchen too. Brought our own wine and snacks which helped us save money and have nicer dinners.

Overall a good place to stay in the off season for the price.

I did leave something very important in the room and drove back a half hour for it. Took a bit to find the cleaning guy to let us in, but overall glad it was still there.

Room Tip: I'd pick a room on the 2nd floor and would definitely choose a harbor view. The ocean view is no...

Front desk staff here are very friendly and accomodating.
Rooms are superb and comprise a lounge and kitchen area leading to bathroom and bedroom area.Outdoor pool on site.
We had a sound side room and sunset views were superb. Room has a small balcony. Beach is across the road and easily walkable. Next door is a small shopping area and the ferry terminal which is not noisy at all. Close by is a museum telling the naval history of the area.
We visited in early May and a lot of the restaurants were not open fo the season.
Be aware that Hatteras is right at the end of the peninsula and is a one to two hour drive from the mainland bridge link at Nags Head. If you take the ferry to Ocracoke this takes just over an hour and is free, however you are then on another island and have to return or book in advance another ferry to cross back to the mainland at Cedar Island, this crossing takes over 2 hours. Handy breakfast eatery just up road at Sonnys

Room Tip: Sound view rooms at rear offer great sunset views

Miralee and the other front desk folks were just as friendly as they could be. Still, when I reserved a room with two double beds and views of the beach, I failed to verify that the receipt showed two double beds. It turns out, this hotel only has one room with two double beds. So, this snoring monster got to sleep on a spider infested pull out couch bed with a mattress that was about two inches thick, while my lovely bride slept on the king bed. On the second night, the living room air conditioner shut down. I asked for a credit off the room; but, it was not granted on the folio the next morning at check out. And one minor point, our tip for housekeeping was collected; but, our bed was not made. The call to the front desk was promptly responded to and our bed was made up immediately. It was still a good value, particularly if you are sleeping alone or can sleep in the same bed with your traveling partner. We found the room rates to be among the lowest on the island. The rooms really are condo quality, with granite countertops and well equipped kitchens, modern electronics abound. The pool is beautiful. The 250 yard walk to the beach was not that bad. And the tacos at Gringo's Taco's are magnificent. But, if you want a margarita, bring your own mix and tequila. And we both found great clothing deals at the shops next door. All in all, we will look to rent a house on the beach or sound for our next trip to Hatteras.

Room Tip: Don't expect any sensational views of the sound or the beach.
