If you've watched 'Nights in Rodanthe' you will have an inkling of the fantastic landscape that awaits you. Absolutely amazing.

“Full of Surprises”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

At low tide you can see some of the hulls of shipwrecked vessels which give the area the title "Graveyard of the Atlantic" The view, headed north from the Oregon Inlet bridge is spectacular. Great for a sunset viewing or anytime. Despite the government shutdown at this time, you can still view lots from the highway.

“Wish they would stop closing the beaches .....”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

We have been visiting the Cape Hatteras National Seashore for close to 20 years -- loving each summer and fall visit for all of the reasons listed above .... beautiful beach, birds, no commercialism, warm water, solitude. Last year the NPS instituted the $50 beach permit (which quite frankly they had been talking about for a number of years in order to reduce the numbers of people driving on the beach). I get that --- what I don't get is how much of the beach they have closed to driving! Cape Hatteras is popular for fisherman as well as vacationers and it seems that they have begun charging a pretty high user fee and then cramming those folks into smaller and smaller sections of the beach! Where is the balance? Stop closing the beaches please and let the people who pay for the seashore enjoy the seashore!

“Driving on the beach in our Jeep!!!”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

With a simple to get permit, you can drive on the beach in designated areas, not only is this a great experience, but it gives you the freedom to spend the day on the beach with all your gear! Good for the week, 50$ charge for tourists!

“Seniors, Looking for Solitude?”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

Yes, it's a long drive from south-central PA...Yes, it's 'out of the way'...But, guess what?..it is absolutely the best beach experience of your life..We go mid-September... No family's, no kids, still warm water, basically deserted beaches...Were there yesterday for over two hours and never saw another person...No fast food, no amusements, only local shopping at locally owned businesses...It just doesn't get any better....
