“Bob and Arlene--Our weekend get-away”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

Our children gave us a get-away for our 45th anniversary. My husband found the River House on line. I had been disapponted so many times by "so-called B&Bs" but decided to give it one more chance. We were welcomed by the owner, Gayle, upon arrival. She was quietly available to meet our needs for our entire stay. Her entire staff made us feel comfortable and at home. It was fine dining on Sunday evening. The food was delicious, the piano player was friendly and aimed to please. The service was great--we wanted for nothing. We stayed in the Chicken Coop. It was clean, comfortable and different--a great experience. Fresh coffee awaited us on the porch outside our door when we got up. A delicious breakfast was served in the smaller dining room which had a beautiful view outside. It was like being at my favorite grandmother's house. Gayle invited us to feel free to enjoy browsing around and we did. What a great relaxing wonderful B&B experience. We highly recommend The River House. You get what you pay for and more.

We just returned from a restful, fun and delicious stay at the River House Country Inn. This time our friends accompanied us. We stayed in the Weigh Station which was so much fun. Spring is has just arrived and the fireplace in that cozy little room took the chill out of the night air. Dinner of the most silky Califlower Soup with Lobster, Spring Lamb Stew with a Lemon Tart to finish was my personal favorite! Will we go back again? We can't wait! Having stayed in the fall and now the spring I can only imagine how lovely summer must be! Gayle and her staff are perfect hosts and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

I have been to the River House twice now. Both times my friend and I stayed in the Granary and this last time we had dinner with Gayle and the other guests on Friday night. With each thing that we were served from the wine to the bread pudding, it just got better and better. An elegant, yet relaxed, friendly atmosphere provided the perfect evening for my best friend and I to get away and just enjoy being friends, something our busy lives and schedules don't often permit in our "real world". We decided that everything about River House is an experience! We enjoyed doing absolutely NOTHING, but we also enjoyed fishing, antique shopping, and just sitting out under the stars.
This was absolutely the best weekend of my life!

The River House is so well done, that we did not want to leave. Gayle is so kind and thoughtful. We stayed in the Chicken Coup, which was a delighful surprise! Of them perks was no TV and no Internet. Being 'forced' to unplug was a real blessing.

My wife and I love to stay here in the fall/winter due to the beauty of the area and the great fly fishing just out the front door. The accommodations are very comfortable and clean with tastefully artistic touches. The service is top-notch and dinners here are reason enough to come. Be sure to catch one of the Sunday salons when available.

The River House is a lovely, historic property that is well-maintained by Gayle and her staff. A great place to relax and get away from the hectic-ness of life. Be aware there are no tv's in rooms and cell-phone service is very poor. Enjoy un-plugging yourself from technology and reconnecting with nature and a nice group of interesting travelers.

Room Tip: Try staying in the Chicken House for a taste of the eclectic and plenty of space. A great spot for...

This was our second visit to the River House this year. We liked it so much the first time we just looked for any excuse to be back there again. So this time on our way to Ashville we decided to break the trip there for one night. Chose a different room – the Milk Parlor, which must have been just renovated as a guestroom (was a pottery showroom on our last visit). We liked the fact that it’s in a standalone building up on the hill, quiet and private. Room’s large, with a full sitting area with plush chairs and a daybed. There were a number of pottery pieces and paintings on display so the room’s the most artistically decorated. The only slight drawback was that the bathroom only had a shower, no bathtub or Jacuzzi, like most of the other rooms. But overall it’s a really attractive and comfy room, the kind you can practically settle in for a much longer stay. Breakfast in the morning was just what we’d been looking forward to: fresh juice, omelets made to order, toasted buttered English muffins, fresh jam, and the best crispy bacon strips anywhere, served in the sunny and elegant breakfast room. We'll definitely be back again!

Room Tip: Rooms are all unique - try them all!

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at this inn over the weekend. The inn consists of rooms in separate buildings. While the inn is very charming and clean, its a little run down for the price. I feel it could use some modernization.

Something about the personalites of the inn keeper and manager make you feel right at home.
They are interesting and make you feel special.

The restaurant has absolutley marvalous food. We ate both breakfast and dinner and really enjoyed both. The staff are efficient and make it a fun place to eat..

I would recommend this inn at a lower price than $175.00 per nt. Maybe we were paying for
the charm and ambiance.
