This is part of the Great Dismal Swamp "system". But, let me tell you, it is glorious! The variety of wildlife is stunning. The swamp is so beautiful- you really must see it for yourself. This state park is located on NC Hwy 158 about 30 miles from Elizabeth City and Edenton and also 30 miles from Suffolk VA. It is well marked. They have a nice picnic area with sheltered areas and restrooms. By the swamp you may rent canoes- if you would like to see the alligators' pupils. There are also 9 miles of hiking trails available. There is a really nice 1/3 of a mile trail that goes around a nice portion of the swamp and has signs up describing local trees, etc. They allow fishing and camping by permit.
It truely is the most amazing place- you will have to see to believe.
