We got to get our own dirt that had been brought up from the creek bed and it had not had anything added to it. the man who ran the mine helped us and was at our side telling us and showing us what to look for. Afterward he identified and labeled everything we found. He was very knowledgeable and informed us about the history of the mining in the area. We learned alot and had a great time! We visited three mines and this one was the best.

My wife and I had a blast at the mine just not real lucky ,We got good instruction from mine owner Tom .We found a few stones of interest and they were inspected by staff and we had found some small gems but no real monetary value but some great fun searching and getting dirty.

Took our 9 year old granddaughter to Rose Creek and she really enjoyed the gem mining. They were very family oriented, that is, they showed us what to look for and how to find the gems, etc. We took our lunch and they had a very nice covered facility with several picnic tables, and a clean restroom. After we were done, a lady went over the rocks and told us what we had found, and some information about how they were formed. It was a fun time for all of us.

We stayed at the campground and the kids wanted to try mining. We shared a $50 bucket between the five of us (Dad did the scooping while we used the screens). The enhanced buckets are worth the price as we found amethysts and other quartz, garnets, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and at least a dozen other types of stones. I ended up with an amethyst geode that would have cost me $35 if I bought it. I took my beautiful smoky quartz to a local jeweler they recommend and had earrings made. The owner of the mine spent well over an hour teaching the kids how to identify their stones. We will definitely return and try our hands at scooping from just the mine to see what turns up.

As a family of Treasure Hunter, we decided to try our hand at Gem Hunting. This is the place to go! To spend a day in the beautiful Smokey Mountains and find some GEM Stones. The staff were VERY Helpful and really enjoy what they are doing, which makes it easier on a newbie or a old- hand. Starting at $10.00 per person, which includes 2 pales of dirt that you dig, it's a GREAT way to spend a day with the family. You will get dirty and wet, but it was well worth it. I look forward to going back and seeing Tom and his family again.
