“Typical Hampton”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Stay at Hampton Inns infrequently and last stayed at this one several years previous;

Appears to have been updated within last 2 years; Flat screen TV, medium wood cabinets and built in desk on outside wall; The pull out desk is a little small and the slightly broken in seat bottom uphostered chair doesn't adjust up enough to comfortably work at the desk height; Good lighting in the room; One nite stand has a multiple outlet box mounted to the top of the stand -- good to plug in phone or other extra electronics and keep close at hand.
Layered cloth shade on the single window is the wrong mechanicism for a hotel -- the cord catches on the side of the shade and it doesn't work well. You need to close it since the parking lot flood lights are directed into the windows.
The King bed I got is way too soft for my taste -- woke up the next morning with a bad back; The pillows are all soft -- no choices like most hotels.
Room was clean, although the second room I had (see below) had a over strong cleaning smell which seemed to be there to cover up some lingering smoke order -- the hotel is supposed to be non smoking but this room probably was used by a smoker at some point. AC worked fine and was quiet. No room to room noise noticed.
The overall configuration of this hotel is a little strange --- the elevator is at the one end -- not in the middle --- you have a long walk if your room is at that other end.
The bath was well lighted with a nice corner sink and 3 sided mirror; Noisey exhaust fan but fortunately it was on a separate switch from the main lights. Water pressure was good with pretty quick hot water. Good thick towels without the normal bleach smell. As usually, tiny soap bars.
The tub, however, had what appearred to be black mold which was sealed under a clear non-slip coating in the center of the tub. I tried to wipe it off with a cloth but it was under that coating; Not a few spots -- the entire area immediately up to the edge of that coating.
I asked the front desk about the tub and she said she had never heard about that -- the maintenance guy was gone for the weekend (this was Friday) but she agreed to move me the room next door. The picture I showed her was very clear to her. She thanked me for bringing it their attention. The new room tub was spotless and no non-slip coating was used.
The breakfast area was pretty much empty the next morning (6:30); Typical micro wave sandwiches, cheese omelets, muffins, cererals, etc; I imagine it was jammed later since the parking lot was very full. It has less tables than it probably needs.
Average price for the area which has few good hotels -- $109 -- heavy taxes - $14 bucks; Bill under the door.

Room Tip: Check the exhaust fan and the tub before you unpack.

The front desk staff Antoinette from Zimbabwe is a dear! One morning we went to Mason Mtn. bright and early to take the boys to gem mine. They were closed because they did not uphold the hours they advertised on their website. Ms. Antoinette at the desk assisted us by calling a few other mines to find one open on a Sunday morning. I greatly appreciate her going out of her way to help us. Beautiful lobby. Nice, comfy beds and a decent continental breakfast. I would stay here again. Give Ms. Antoinette a raise, she is an asset to your company. No problems on our stay here.

I enjoyed my stay very much at this Hampton. Even though there was a large convention of motorcycle riders at the hotel during my stay, other than the noise when the motorcycles were in the parking lot, the noise level wa acceptable. I enjoyed the selection of foods at the complimentary breakfast, and appreciated the frozen breakfast entrees that could be microwaved for a larger selection of food that you normally get. The staff at the front desk went out of their way to make sure my stay was pleasant and that I had all the information I need to navigate this pleasant town in the Smokies.

Other than internet being extremely slow, our stay was great. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was usual, assorted cereals, breads, waffle etc. though the space was pretty crowded in the morning.

We have stayed at this Hampton Inn a few times as a "home base" for hiking Western NC or for rafting the Nantahala. It is a clean, comfy hotel. Never had any bad experiences here. It is just a basic hotel that appears to be reliable. No frills. It is sort of in the middle of nowhere. Breakfast is a bit on the skimpy side.

Big thank you to Laurie at the front desk. Her southern hospitality was most appreciated.

Our room was clean and spacious. We were in room 230 at the end of a long hall which wasn't bad because we could go right out the back door to the car. The down side was that others would let the door slam.

Breakfast was ok. There were prepackaged items to heat heat up if you wanted a hot meal. There was a nice size outdoor pool.

If we are ever in Franklin again we will definitely stay at the Hampton Inn.
