I grew up in Fontana Village, and had many fond memories of the quaint little village in the Smokies. I moved away for college and lost touch. After college, I heard the village had changed ownership, and upon getting engaged decided to tour the village for our wedding destination. What I found when touring was awesome! Though the property could still use some maintenance, it has drastically improved over the years. With updated lodging and facilities, gorgeous vistas, and wonderful catering manager and staff, it was an easy choice for our mountain-chic wedding weekend. We had an absolutely amazing wedding weekend, much due to Fontana's highly professional and efficient staff. They didn't miss a single detail.

I first want to say, I have never complained on tripadvisor. We went to Fontana Village every year for a long time but stopped about 8 years ago and we could not remember why so we decided to go Memorial Day weekend. This place use to be a great place to take families. They had craft rooms with activities throughout the day. Since that was not producing any money they took it away. They use to have a indoor pool but turned it into a gameroom, another way to make money. Their new outdoor pool was cold and dirty. The putt putt golf use to be well maintained now it is full of weeds, you can tell it has not been worked on in a long time. We use to come to hike and bike ride right from the door, the trails are now awful. I emailed management but don't waste your time. The cabins are in rough shape, carpets are dirty, bathrooms were old and gross. This is not a peacful place. If you want peace and quiet stay near Bryson City. Look up Watershed or Carolina Mountain for places to stay, they are the ones that will take over this place. Nicer cabins and you don't have a pay a fortune. Now I know why they place was practically empty on Memorial weekend. I am really disappointed that I wasted my summer vacation at this place.

My husband and I spent 2 nights in the lodge room 212. The room was very clean and nice everything worked just fine had a nice little deck where we sat a lot at night. The wildwood grill was great and had a band on the patio Saturday night which played beach music and was easy on the ears. The lady in the bar that mixed me a drink and let my husband sample the micro beers before he decided was very nice. The pools was really cold as the one at the lodge had cold water hose running in it the whole time we were there. The lounge are in the lodge was really nice and Monday as we were leaving was full of hikers. It was pouring rain so i guess they let them use the lobby/lounge area for shelter which is great! Overall this is a great place to visit...but you are way out in the woods so take whatever you need with you as there are no shopping malls or walmarts nearby..LOL..Nice place to just kick back and enjoy each others company and get some rest and relaxation from everyday life. Oh we did go out to the dam it is worth a visit while you are there! We were very happy with our accomidations and the whole resort! We will be returning!!

We stayed in May 2013 when the whole resort lost power for about 24 hours. Where the previous reviewer is correct there are no safety features in place for this emergency the staff handled it the best they could. They were polite and professional. They even provided a free breakfast the morning the power was out. We were in a one bedroom cabin and it had a queen bed in the bedroom a table and chairs and a sofa and chair. Television with cable was provided. Everything in the cabin worked once the power came back on. I was a little disappointed the management did not offer a discount on the room the night the power went out - I did not expect a full refund but a discount should have been offered. There is no phone in most cabins so if this is important to you request one with a phone. I find this resort relaxing. It is rustic however - think summer camp as opposed to luxury cabins in the woods. The bed was comfortable and AC worked, I had hot water. This is not a luxury hotel so do not expect that type of service. I could sit on the cabin porch and rock in the rocking chairs for hours! I am disturbed the resort management has taken down the historical dancer photos in the hall and replaced them with motorcycle pictures. They must have missed the memo that the dancers kept this place running when no one else would rent the resort and now they want to price the dancers out of the hall and facilities. If you are not dancers the attraction here is the hard wood floor in the recreation hall. The main restaurant is over priced for lunch and dinner. The grille really should be open earlier in the year. The management is missing the boat by not opening the ice cream shop when dance events are going on. If they were smart they would open it because dancers by ice cream, especially at night when the dances end.

Room Tip: Choose a cabin to have the option of cooking some meals.

We felt like we had gone back to the 1960's lodge-type of resort. We were here over Memorial Day week-end and the motorcycles were in abundance. The bathrooms could use a make over for more counter space but overall the room was well kept and clean. The restaurant had a good menu and food was good, especially liked the fresh trout almandine. Staff was friendly and willing to help. Downside was that there are not many other places close by to grab another meal for a change. The resort had several pools but still a bit too cold for us to swim yet. Overall a good experience.

Room Tip: Rooms in the lodge are very convenient.
