Our family rented various accommodations from rooms in the main lodge to cabins. The cabins were a little hit and miss with one cabin smelling of mold and mildew to another being infested with ants. However, staff was very responsive. Tons and tons of activities for family and two pools which were very nice. Also, several restaurants from fancy in the lodge to casual on the front porch of the Wildwood Grill where bands played each evening.
The catering for our event was delicious, plentiful and very reasonably priced. Thanks Will!
Travel to this location is not for the faint of heart, but if you are a motorcyclist, you will love the tail of the dragon on Route 129 which has 300plus turns over 11 miles! You can also come across the Smoky Mountains Parkway which is a lovely view. A truly beautiful place in the mountains with a pristine green lake. Great marina too with rentals. Also recommend the riding stable for a trail ride on very well mannered horses through the woods.
Note that, with the exception of Verizon, there is NO cell phone service, which was a plus for me. You can get free WI Fi in the main lodge if you feel the need to be in touch with the world.

Room Tip: You will need to ask if your cabin has a phone if that matters to you.

We visit the Fontana area regularly. The cabins are clean, not fancy. The employee's are very friendly and helpful. The area is wonderful for motorcycle rides, the famous "Dragon" with 318 curves in 11 miles, plus highway 28, and many other twisting roads. The area is quiet and secluded - not the place for people who want to party. Come here to relax and enjoy!

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. We booked one of the "Willows" cabins because it is pet friendly. They had newer cabins for alot more money...I guess you get what you pay for. The Willows cabin is basically an old trailer home....it is old but functional....living room, front deck, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The bathroom was dirty and the entire place was very dated. Renting a cabin I would have though they would provide some ammenities. They only thing they provided was a role of paper towel. 3 towels...small bottle of dish detergent to wash dishes...no sponge. No dishwasher....3 plates, 2 forks and a spoon and some pots and pans...just not very well planned. Great location but just a dumpy place. The hotel is probably much nicer but we had our pet so had to get a pet friendly place to stay. Also, keep in mind this is basically a Harley Davidson resort because all the roads around here are a harley persons dream. So keep in mind....you will hear motorcycles all day every day. I gues the National Park Service is not in the business of hotels.

Dear Edsbay,

We certainly appreciate the feedback you have provided us in this review. It is in part through the honest and open feedback we receive from our customers that we learn where we can continue to improve. We have reviewed your concerns with our Housekeeping team and with our reservations agents. We always want to set the proper expectations for our guests and then strive to exceed those expectations on a daily basis. We are disappointed to learn we did not do so in your case. While it is true that our accommodations offer a wide range of amenities many of which include not only dishwashers, but natural wood burning fireplaces, upgraded appliances, and more, your point is well taken with regard to what you described and this too has been addressed. With regard to the number of motorcycles you may have encountered, we pride ourselves on offering a variety of vacation experiences for all of our guests. Given our location and the world famous driving roads that surround us, we do get our share of not only motorcycle but auto enthusiasts. We regret that you found the motorcycle traffic surrounding the resort bothersome. However, the resort property itself is known to be peaceful and quiet. If you would like to contact me directly and provide some additional detail with regard to which accommodation you stayed in I would very much like to look more closely into what you experienced. In either case, thank you again for your feedback.
Regards,

Great stay with beautiful weather. The place was practically empty so we loved having the lodge to ourselves. The restaurant was open and the food was awesome. Best cheesecake I've ever had.

We spent 4 nights prior to Labor Day. The lodge and cabins were practically empty, but we were told the place was completely booked for the upcoming "Lake-a-paloosa" weekend...sorry we missed it, but we had
a nice time and enjoyed the peaceful setting. Not much to do this time of year except rest, hike, take day trips to the Gatlinburg/Smokey Mountains area. We took a wine tour in Sevierville and it was very interesting. And of course we spent a wonderful day boating on Fontana's 11,000 acre lake. We also rode "the dragon tail" that all the bikers love, but we went in our truck...still it was a fun drive but very slow. The restaurant at the lodge was closed for all but breakfast and the restaurant at the cabins was open for lunch and dinner. We ate there a couple of times and it was okay, but nothing special. The staff were very nice and even changed our cabin to a larger one with a fireplace. We might come back but it would have to be when more things are open in the summer or whenever it's holiday time. So be sure to check their calendar before you go if you're looking for activities. Otherwise, peace and quiet has it's rewards too.

We went to Fontana Village at the peak leaf foilage time and wow, it was fantastic. If you are a person who is not amused by awesome nature, do not go here. It is not close to any large cities and the area is remote. We like remote and we loved it. The time share units were nice. The couch was a bit frumpy and the tv could have been updated but we did not go there to sit on the couch and watch tv. We went there to hike, explore the beautiful surroundings and get a taste of true North Carolina mountain life. You can find all of that here. In the fall, the TVA lowers the water at the dam, expecting the winter and spring rains to fill up the lake and the lowered condition takes away from some of the beauty of the water but the mountains and the trees make up for it. If you like people, stay in Pidgeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg on the Tennessee side but if you like few people and mountain beauty, Fonatana Village is your place. We would go again.

By the way, the place is popular with motor cyclists and once you get used to getting off the road at the viewing stations and letting them by, it is no big deal. They are there for the twists and turns in the roads. Some of them go pretty darn fast.

My husband and I, along with our 2 children, booked a lodge room for two nights but only could stand it for one night. The setting that it is in is very pretty. It is surrounded by mountains but that is the only good thing about staying here. The food was terrible! We ordered something very simple, which was hamburgers, and they gave us all a stomach ache. The rooms were very basic and the beds were VERY hard and uncomfortable. Also, all the activities that they advertise to do there were closed and only one of their restaurants were open. Between our work schedule and the kids school schedule we don't have many chances to get away, so we were all very dissapointed to say the least. The gentleman that handled our check out process the next morning noticed we were checking out after just one night but he never bothered to even ask us why or if we enjoyed our stay. And on top of if being a dissapointment, I have charges on my credit card that no one seems to know why my card was charged! It was a huge waste of money and time that we could have spent elsewhere in the Smoky Mountain area and had just as much of a beautiful view.
