“Thanks for making our trip so special!”

We stopped over in NC on our way to Charleston and Savannah. Gene, at the Acorn Bed and Breakfast at Mills River, was so nice to us. We had a 'Welcome Home' sign waiting for us out front when we drove up. Even though the weather was cold and dreary, Gene made our stay there feel so warm and comfortable. The room was very nice, we stayed in The Magnolia Room which had French doors leading out to the back deck. There were home made cookies on the bureau for us when we arrived and a small box of truffles. It was so quite and peaceful there that we had a great nights rest. The next morning, Gene pampered us with a wonderful breakfast! It was such a surprise and one of those small luxuries that really sets your day off to a good start. Thanks again Gene, for all your kindness and hospitality to us on our way through your beautiful state.... Lisa and Leigh

Room Tip: We loved the Magnolia room as it had the French doors which let in alot of light and it was on the f...

We arrived after a 15 hour drive from N.H. Welcomed by Inn keeper Gene. Felt at home, right away. Quiet and homey, we were allowed to have our dog,Soleil, with us, which is important to us! We rested and then went to see family, who had gathered for the wedding the next day. We stayed two nights, slept great on the most wonderful sheets, soo comfortable!! Woke up to smell of coffee and French toast/w peach syrup. Smoothies both mornings. Excellent, thank you Gene! Hope to get back to N.C. Soon. Will only stay at Acorn B&B. PS. Purchased a ceramic mug and it is my favorite for coffee! Thank you, Gene for everything!!!!!

Room Tip: Magnolia room, private bath and French doors to large deck.

The home is welcoming and very comfortable, with charming rooms and amenities. The breakfasts are outstanding. Gene makes everything himself, including his own biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs benedict, stuffed French toast with praline syrup. We visited in the winter and he'd canned or frozen fresh fruits from the summer. Even the apple butter is home made. Delectible!

My wife and I were traveling to Asheville for a concert downtown. We looked for a place to stay closer to town, and found nothing available but low to mid range chain hotels for nearly double the price.

I don't think we'll stay anywhere else again.

The breakfast was amazing (caramel apple french toast, tropical fruit smoothie, fresh fruit cup, and breakfast kabob), the room was clean and comfortable, we had a steady supply of chocolates and sweets in our room, and the price was beyond reasonable. I can't recommend it more highly.

What a delightful surprise! Thanks to other reviewers on Tripadvisor we were excited to book a room at the Acorn Bed & Breakfast. Traveling with my adult daughter we were visiting friends in Brevard and Flat Rock so this was a perfect location for us. And only about 6 minutes to the Asheville airport! Gene and Bob have taken great pleasure in seeing to every detail to make ones visit special, including gourmet chocolates in the room, personalized names on the door, details in decor and even reading material in the bathroom! They truly want guest to feel pampered and Gene is available for travel advice and insider stories about working at the Biltmore House.
Breakfasts were beautiful & delightful, a different fruit smoothie every morning is nice, but if you prefer just a piece of fruit let them know.
Bed & pillows were very cozy and comfortable. Our only complaint, the smell of the sheets and towels. I am sure most folks love that fresh fabric softener smell but if you are sensitive just let them know to launder your linens fragrance free. My daughter actually had a rash upon departure, had we realized sooner we would have asked!
I am looking forward to another trip to the Asheville area and hope to stay at Acorn B & B again!

Nothing but positive things to say about this B&B. The breakfasts were excellent - we had berry bread pudding on the second day, which was phenomenal (I have a feeling Gene may have made it because I mentioned how much I loved bread pudding the night before, and he really goes out of his way to cater to specific needs). Every night, we had fresh cookies and chocolates waiting on our bedside. We also really appreciated the mini fridge with free soda and water. This is a perfect B&B for a couple looking for a weekend getaway, but I also think it'd be fun to go with a group.

The inn has a quaint ambiance, identical to something you feel when you finally get to grandmothers house after a long trip. Gene (the innkeeper) greets you and escorts you to your room, he adds personality to your room by hanging a painted on a slate plate with your name on the door :) I appreciate the details that he puts into the simple things, this is what makes Southern hospitality the best and Gene is a master of his craft.

Before we went to bed he asked our preferred time of breakfast and our preference of hot tea or coffee. We arose to the smell of crackling bacon and fresh brewed coffee. The table presentation was semi formal, just cozy enough to dig in but not to informal that you have a paper napkin. We had strawberry bandanna smoothies in champagne flutes, very yummy. The meal started with fresh peaches in a short martini glass, cute :) Then came the GLORIOUS buttermilk pancakes with Apple Butter Syrup (still dreaming of this syrup) and smoked bacon! Loved all of it, he also had a pastry bar with preserves and baked breads :)

We sat and chatted up with Gene over breakfast and we will deff come back for Gene alone, the inn is just the cherry on top!

Can't wait for twelve days of Christmas, see you soon Gene!

Thanks Again,
Karol & Mandy
