staff is very friendly. House was very clean. Far from the store, please bring everything you need. Small cafe on site food is VERY good. Kids really enjoyed fishing and the stock ponds. Great getaway from everyday life. The stars are their street lights. :-)

We rented a cabin here over new years with 4 couples. We had a blast! Something that should be mentioned though is that it's pretty far from any real towns in the area so the cabin is really the vacation destination. My husband and I took a lengthy hike with our dogs on the last day of our trip on some of the hiking trails right on the property. The trails were fantastic and really easy to navigate, so if this is your kind of thing, then this place is for you!

We stated a week in the Last Resort. It is a small efficiency near the Welcome Center, restaurant, and horse barns. We had a great peaceful stay in our little house. Our only complainant is the full size bed was very hard and noisy.
Restaurant has great food and service. The Sat and Sun breakfast buffet is wonderful.
We took day trips to Wilksboro, Blowing Rock, Boone, and Grandfather Mountain..

Was in town for a wedding and did not want to stay at a hotel. Did some research into alternatives and found Leatherwood estates. We are not horse people or fishermen but still found this to be a relaxing and pleasant experience. Our cabin was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is a small restaurant/ bar on premises that was open most days. Food was great and reasonably priced. Did some hiking and swam in the pool. Very very nice. Would recommend. Views are just amazing too.

We have stayed here many times as our children were growing up - about 8 different houses on the east and west ridges. This is a wonderful vacation. There is much to do on site with fishing, tubing, camp fires, swiming, hiking and horseback riding. Grandfather Moutain, Blowing Rock, Boone and the Mast General Store (must do with kids) are an easy ride. Our children are now in college and will still make time to go to Leatherwood with us. Great memories to be had here.

This is a beautiful area and if you like being away from everything and everyone, this is the place for you. We rented Eagles Nest with our son and his family (and our Yorkie). We definitely could not see our neighbors, which was wonderful. Our rental was a good way up the mountain, so we had beautiful views each morning. A great gas grill was on the deck - worked beautifully and we enjoyed that convenience most every evening. I would say that we would have liked to have had the TV on the upper level of the home - the flat screen was in the basement with the pool table. Was difficult for some of us to play pool while others wanted to watch TV - we got in each other's way. The TV would be much better situated upstairs - or maybe even put a second TV upstairs above the fireplace...that would be even better!

We had a mouse and lizard that greeted us upon our arrival. The mouse stayed - have no idea where the lizard went. Upon calling maintenance, they came right away to set a trap and by the end of the week he was captured. The staff seemed to be professional and very friendly and accommodating. The pool was nice (and cold!) and facilities at the pool were exceptionally clean. The carpet in our upstairs bedroom was very badly stained and I did not walk on it without having shoes on.

Eagles Nest is a very long distance from the closest grocery store, so plan your stay carefully. It is rustic living at it's best. If this is what you like, you will love this place!

My family and I went to Leatherwood to celebrate my birthday. I had heard of Leatherwood for years but never got around to going because I am not an outdoorsman. My wife and kids are more comfortable inside congested cities as opposed to the open outdoors. However, there is a lot of good to be said about Leatherwood Mountain resort.

We normally stay in Five Star hotels when that option is available. With that being said, although you are in the mountains in a very rural area, the cabin we rented was very nicely appointed (Moose Tracks). We also stayed in Mountain Aire which was nice.

We went hiking as a family for the first time and it was really neat. My two girls got to ride horses which they really enjoyed. Unlike many vacation spots, there is one restaurant on site that is operated by a husband and wife team. The food is very good and is inexpensive. That's right, I said good and inexpensive!!! Those words are rarely if ever used when describing food costs on vacation.

Everyone at Leatherwood was exceptionally nice. Our cell phones didn't work and we couldn't get a wireless signal on the I-Pad. What a treat that was!!! No cell phone and no e-mails. Nothing to do except sit on an expansive porch swinging or rocking while looking out over the Blue Ridge Mountains. I could have never imagined how nice it was to be forced to relax. Although we did not use the hot tub. Most houses have outdoor hot tubs with mountain views.

If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and experience what it would be like to own a place in the mountains, this is definitely a place to visit.
