Owner description: This area was orginally developed because of transportation needs. WE are at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. This museum tells that key to our history plus lots of interesting tidbits, like a 1950's gas station, info on hotels - steam boat travel, etc.

The museum covered all the transportation history of the area from the native American's in dugouts to trains, horse and buggy, and the motor car. It also tells of the involvement of Fayetteville and it's people during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Civil War. Wonderful displays. It's free too.

“Terrific historical museum in Fayetteville. Worth the visit.”
Reviewed June 30, 2014 via mobile

Fayetteville has so much history and the transportation museum does a Fabiola's job of pulling much if it together. Plan a day to see all the sights in Downtown Fsyetteville.

“eye opener”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

Wife and I went to check out the farmers Market there and ended up in the museum as well. It was very informative and surprising. I didn't know how big river travel was on the Capefear river. Steam boats, commerce, plus the just have a lot of old cool stuff. But some places are pretty small so if your a clumsy like me you have to be careful. The staff are nice people who really enjoy their work, are helpful and knowledgably take your time read the captions and just look at the stuff in there don't rush it or you will not be able to appreciate it.

“Take your time even though it is small.”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

The secrets are in the details. If you take your time and read into the displays you will find yourself very interested. It is a quick tour but if you are into history you can spend an hour or so checking out the details.
