“Step back in time”

This house shows you what a middle/upper-class family life was like in the 19th century. It is filled with little items that almost make it feel like the family just stepped out. The quality of the tour varies with the guide, based on knowledge and personality, of course. For people who are avid history buffs and have visited many similar museums, there might be a few missing pieces of information (nothing major, just pointing out one or the other item), but for most people this will be very interesting. There is a good connection to the local history too, and if you can visit during one of their special event days, you might experience even more.

“I enjoyed seeing this remarkable piece of history”

I was visiting from Phoenix and actually had planned to tour The Poe House. My son in law and daughter were with me. The guides were very knowledgeable and entertaining. This is a must see for Fayetteville visits.

“surprising peice of local history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

I had 11 and 15 year old neices visiting town and was looking for something to do with them. I took them to the Cape Fear Museum, While there they asked if we would like to tour the house. Our guide was excellent and explained many aspects of early 20th century life in Fayetteville. The girls were facnated by teh Victorian era clothes and the old toys. The Museum has done a good job of preserving the house and explaining what has been restored and why. A great surprise for anyone visiting Fayetteville
