“TERRIBLE!!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

I rented the Islander for my wedding bringing them in thousands of dollars. They released my room into the public leaving me with no place to stay on THE NIGHT OF MY WEDDING!!! When trying to sort this out I had to deal with their BIMBO events coordinator and they wouldn't let me talk to the manager. She ended up giving me the bridal suite the night before my wedding and a crappy room the night of the wedding. Oh, and they double charged me for the crappy room.

They did this to many of my guests attending the wedding, releasing the room to be rented for no reason. Many of my guests were trying to find a place to stay the night of the wedding. They don't use a computer system to rent rooms, they have it on sheets of paper that they archaically flip through to write down guests reservations. Ridiculous!

Many of the rooms my guests did end up getting didn't have air condition in the middle of July. And several of them had a funky smell that resembled cat urination and poop. The suite # 139 on the first floor didn’t have a locking sliding glass door. The beds were extremely hard and every time you turned it sounded like the whole bed was about to break and the springs were obnoxiously squeaky. This place is falling apart and unkempt.

The staff is incompetent and a nightmare to have to interact with. Good luck trying to get them to answer the phone. The manager is constantly on vacation or out of the office. I had numerous big issues with the rooms and rentals for the wedding it would take 2-3 weeks to get a response from ANYONE.

Highly unsatisfied. Rooms weren’t clean or well maintained, and the staff was terrible. I will NEVER go back!!!!!

Room Tip: NEVER stay here!!!

The staff are nice enough, the rooms are clean, however, my King Size room with the full size pull out couch was a little strange. There was no closet in the room, there were two hooks mounted to the wall and that was the only place to hang your clothes. They didn't have enough linens at the hotel to give us an extra blanket, and the ironing board was a 2-foot counter top board which was stored under the sink. For the rate we paid, yes, I know it's prime season, it was way too much. No restaurant on site, outside corriders, just not as nice as other places I've stayed at. If it weren't for the wedding being held at the hotel, I would've stayed elsewhere for a lot less money and better amenities.

Room Tip: My friend's corner room was awesome, but I can't imagine what they had to pay for it.

We stayed four days - three nights at The Islander last week. During our visit, housekeeping did not come to our room one single time. This despite numerous calls to the front desk and personal visits to the office. Each time, the office staff apologized and promised that the room would be made up and fresh towels brought. Each time, no one ever showed up. At the end of the first day, someone from the desk delivered towels. Placed them on the hallway floor and did not bother to remove the old towels. The second day, we made calls at 11, 12, visited the office at 1, called at 3, 5 and finally were able to get towels from the office at 11 PM. Even at 11 PM the staff lied and said that the housekeeping person was being called in to clean the room. Really? At 11 PM? Now, please don't think that we aren't "green". We are, but you see there are no towel racks in the bathroom to hang your towels to dry. Also no hangers in the closet. This was not one of the cheap rooms. Rather we were ocean view ground level. Nice room. Great view. Everyone makes a mistake, and that is to be expected. But the continuous lies by the staff is unacceptable. Clearly, there is no on site management of this property. Friends of ours were staying in the corner suite upstairs. They couldn't get bed linens for the guest bed in their room so, we took the linens off the extra bed in our room and gave them to their guest to use. I must say that the staff was very polite and pleasant, but just lied and ineffective in management. We were provided a $100 refund the last night. Accepted, but would rather have had a clean room.

Room Tip: 8 best rooms are the ones that face the ocean. 4 corner suites and 4 standard rooms.

This was our first stay at the Islander. The room was ready early and was clean and adequate, but somewhat dark. Maid service was erratic. One day, they did not come to clean the room at all.
The pool is excellent, as is the beach. The staff is very friendly. Emerald Isle is a family beach with mostly house, condo, or rv rentals, so this is a great choice when you want to stay less than a week. Cooking is limited to microwave.

Second year staying at the Islander Inn and we liked it very much. We stayed in a first floor, one bedroom suite with a small kitchen, full size refrigerator, microwave (no stove). Family-oriented, quiet, convenient, clean, well equipped and nicely furnished. Will stay here again.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are the best.

We stayed a night at the Islander this weekend and enjoyed the stay. We were able to check in a few hours early due to the room being ready. The room was clean and was not anything special but was good for a night. We enjoyed the pool at the Inn and stayed at the pool most of the day. Would definitely stay there again if visiting Emerald Isle.

I did agre with the other reviewers that you won't want to eat at the hotel. There are kitchenettes though, so having read the reviews we brought milk and cereal and fruit and yogurt and were fine. Two adults and two kids, the two double beds were clean and the bedspreads were awful but the sheets were clean and soft. There was a wall separating the "bedroom" from the "living room" - the living room had the queen pull-out sofa bed. My kids slept there. They complained that it was a thin mattress and there was a big bar down the middle - but they slept like rocks. You're at the beach - you don't go to bed until you're already half gone, so who cares? The bathroom was huge, but they should add a half-dozen hooks for hanging wet towels and garments!!! The pool area had great furniture and the pool is plenty big with a gorgeous view of the beach. The hotel has no chairs on the beach - bring your own. All in all, a great place to stay for a long weekend, not sure I'd stay more than three nights due to the comfort of the "guest" bed and the lack of places to hang wet stuff. There are a washer and dryer in the common area though, so I suppse I could just throw towels in there every few days. Great location right on the ocean - our room was not oceanfront. We had a very positive experience with service when the older blonde woman was on duty - she goes ABOVE AND BEYOND. She might be an owner. The younger kids who worked the desk were useless.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get oceanfront - the corner by the parking lot will be quieter than the corner roo...
