Our most recent meal was a prix fixe 4-course New Year's Eve dinner. We had a choice of two dishes for each course. Lobster bisque w/poached tail/braised pork w/polenta; endive salad/sweet potato gnocchi; NY Strip w/green tomato relish/seared tuna w/eggplant & raisins; molten chocolate cake/lemon pie with lavender ice cream. The owner/chef also makes good use of seasonal produce. Service was a little slow between courses this time but I won't penalize the kitchen in our case - we were a a large group and it always requires more time to get 10 plates out simultaneously. And it was a very relaxed evening anyway. Wine bar with separate menu upstairs. Dinner served Tues-Sat.; lunch and Sunday brunch services are seasonal. Subdued lighting, exposed brick walls, subtle background music makes a nice atmosphere. Upstairs and downstairs dining rooms. Website: www.twentyoneandmain.com.

We discovered the restaurant when we stayed overnight in Elkin on a long trip. We expected that we would be limited to the usual chain restaurants and their mundane meals. Fortunately, we discovered 21 and Main, and had a memorable meal.

We revisited on a recent trip. Indeed we planned the trip to arrive in time for dinner. The welcome was friendly and the service good.

The missus liked the steak, but there was only one choice for vegetarians, a risotto. I would like to see at least a second dish that provides a selection of vegetables based on those served with the meat dishes.

We will visit again.

Beautiful restaurant. Good food. Not quite the everyday food though. Service was great. Little pricey depending on what you order. Could use a few more menu items that would appeal to the basic taste buds.

There were 4 of us that visited Elkin for a night for a visit to a few wineries. Twenty One and Main was recommended by our hotel concierge. We asked how good it was. The response we got was, "if you're hungry, grab a cookie and wait until you can get in. That's how good it is." So, we did exactly that and man was she right!!

Out of the 4 of us, 2 got the pasta dish on special that night, one got the hanger steak and the other the prime rib. 2 got a Caesar salad and 1 got the butternut squash soup. ALL of us finished our entire plate, almost licked it clean! And all that was after the corn muffins and bread with pimento cheese spread.

Go there! Make a reservation and you will not be disappointed! We live about an hour away and want to just go up for the night. All 4 of us declared at the end of the meal that by far it was the BEST meal we have EVER eaten!!!
