“Did not meet expectations.”
Reviewed October 27, 2009

My husband and I had lunch here on a recent visit to Elizabeth City. We were pretty excited to sample some of the local seafood. First of all, the restaurant IS in a good location; by that I mean that it's right on the water. We had a little trouble figuring out how to access it however. You get to it by going into a larger "office type" building. The service was average. The food, however, was disappointing. We ordered the calamari, which we both really love, and were bummed to find it to be very chewy. Also, one of their specials that day was the soft shell crab sandwich, which we both ordered. Neither one of us were impressed. Overall, not a winner in our book.

“You are on the water”

Great Food, good service, nice deck with a wonderful view of sailboats. Summer weekends include bands on the deck, tiki bar and plenty of local carolina kick back and party the night away attitudes.

“Grouper's A delight!”
Reviewed August 6, 2008

My wife and I ate at Grouper's while visiting Elizabeth City last May in hopes of retiring there in 2009. We will definately go there after we move. The waterfront setting is nice, food was excellent, prices reasonable and service okay. We'll be back!

“Good Food, Terrible Service”
Reviewed August 2, 2008

Grouper's has pretty good food if you have the patience and energy to put up with several inconveniences. First, we had to wait a long time to be seated even though the place had many vacant tables. I made the mistake of ordering a mixed drink (Mai Tai) from the bar and it was undrinkable and did not have the correct ingredients. I would reccommend ordering beer or wine instead of mixed drinks. Our appetizer finally arrived along with our main course. The food was good, but took a long time to be prepared. During that time, our waitress did not come by to check on us. We also made the mistake of sitting outside on the deck. There were mosquitoes everywhere and no fans or citronella candles to help keep them away. The outdoor lights did not come on until it was so dark that I couldn't see what I was eating. We finished our meal and were very ready to leave but our waitress could not be found. We had to go back inside and ask the hostess to find her so that we could get our bill. The food is okay but not worth the bad service. Other tables with different waitresses were having similar problems as well.
