Had a very different experinece than previous reviewers. As of Sept 09 it appears the hotel has received a basic update with new carpets, wall paper, lamps and TVs. Bed was comfy and large. Some aspects seem a bit old, such as key card scanners, but not things that are central to most stays. Room also had a fridge. Hotel staff were friendly and curteous.

We opted for the safe components of the breakfast, cereal, muffins and coffee, but I can understand the previous complaints about the heated items. We tried one and it was below average, but we didn't stay here for the food.

All in all a fine hotel in a small town. One final note, if you're looking to stat close to the Outer Banks, Elizabeth City is about an hour away. Weekend traffic to the OBX can be heavy with renters, so plan on leaving on the early side if you don't want to sit in traffic for a few hours.

Extremely disappointed in the the breakfast. I guess this is how they cut costs now.
while maintaining their already high rates. this hotel is very old and has a lot of
wear. Needs some real updating. carpets in rooms are worn out, bathrooms are
not very clean....I would not stay here again without a major upgrade of this worn
out hotel. Key pads have also been worn out. Had to re key 3 times.

This Hampton is a somewhat older hotel and it shows off in the lobby. The woman at the check-in wasn’t very welcoming, although we did get a quiet room (requested with the reservation) at the back. We were there on a weekly day in June and the hotel was fully booked, not only that day but also almost the whole period (business guests). It really looked as if she didn’t have to do any effort any more to make guests more comfortable. (Other hotel guests were treated the same way.)

The room had dark furniture, the good quality Hampton Inn bed and sheets, microwave and refrigerator. The latter wasn’t on, rather strange if a hotel is fully booked and also not very costumer friendly. The bathroom had no tub, just a walk-in shower.

There is not a real business center, but there is a computer available in the lobby next to entrance. I tried this in the afternoon, the Internet connection failed and upon asking the same woman who checked me in smiled for the first time, put her hands in the air and said that it was caused by the weather. (It had been raining that day.) In the evening I did another try and the same problem. Later I did a third attempt and it was still not working. It was dry since the afternoon and there had even been sunny periods. I asked again about the connection failure. Fortunately there was now another woman (ass. manager?) who assisted me. She called the provider and everything should have been all right. After investigation it turned out that one cable was not proper fastened. So, this problem could have been solved at a much earlier time.

Breakfast the next day was good, with everything from muffins to fruit salad and yoghurts. The ‘hot items’ are frozen and have to be put in the microwave. This comes very handy for the management and unfortunately becoming more and more familiar in Hampton Inns, but it is not as tasty as it used to be.

I had called approximately 2 weeks prior to arriving and made a reservation using the government rate as I was travelling on government orders for work. When arrived after driving over 250 miles they refused to honor the rate of $65 and jacked up the price to $95. When I asked to speak to someone else I was told there was no one else to talk with. I asked for a number of someone that I could speak to at Hilton (parent company) and they refused. When I asked if they cared that I was a Hilton gold member the response was "no". I cancelled the reservation and went a few blocks up the road to the Holiday Inn Express where the people were understanding of my situtation and took care of me as if I were a family member.

I did call Hilton/Hampton Inn's customer service who tried to call the Elizabeth City location and they were not able to resolve the issue with this hotel. Customer service assured me that I would receive a call from the hotels manager in 48 hours, it's now been over 4 days and no call.

The Elizabeth City Hampton Inn does not honor rates they quote, care about their customer and is very disrespectful. Upon arriving at the Coast Guard base to work and describing to people there what had happened they expressed stories very similiar to mine concerning this hotel.

I have written a letters to the BBB, Chamber of Commerce and Hampton Inn (Hilton) with my concerns.

This hotel exceeded our expectations! Pleasant staff, clean throughout, great water, super-comfortable bed and pillows . . . The other hotels are pretty bad, and I even worried about this one. Then I stayed there. Very nice experience!!!!

I have stayed at the Hampton Inn in Elizabeth City three times in three years--once for five nights and twice for two nights. The rooms I have had were comfortable, clean, quiet and well equipped, including a microwave and a small refrigerator. The hotel is convenient to all of the business and retail locations in Elizabeth City.

As a woman traveling alone, I have always felt safe and well cared for during my stays at this hotel. There are other comparable hotels which surround this one, but I have never been disappointed there and always go back to this one.

"Any port in a storm" is an old seaman's saying, but if you're actually caught in a storm, try to make it to the town that surrounds our Hampton Inn® hotel in Elizabeth City. Why? Well, first of all, we're a harbor that offers a huge array of services. You'll find shops, docks, stores, and restaurants all along our waterfront. And second? We're home to the United States Coast Guard. They're just six miles from the Hampton Inn hotel in Elizabeth City. While you're in town, make sure to explore our gorgeous neighborhoods. Many boast Greek Revival, antebellum, Italianate, and Victorian homes and businesses. Those who love golf will find championship links within just a few minutes of our hotel in Elizabeth City. Lastly, if you pull into our town by boat, don't be surprised if you're greeted by a friendly welcome party complete with roses. It's a long tradition here in town-started by two private citizens in 1983 and continued by Elizabeth City's "Rose Buddies."
