“Nice Place to Stay”
Reviewed November 2, 2011

This hotel has a great staff and nice rooms for the price. The only thing we found to be unusual were the dehumidifiers in every room. I've never stayed in a hotel before that had this type of device. Overall, we were very pleased with the location, staff, hotel and the town of Edenton.

We traveled through Edenton on our way to a week long vacation in the Outer Banks. Our hotel stay at the Hampton Inn was very nice - despite the renovations underway in the lobby and breakfast area. (We still are not sure why they chose to schedule the work during the summer high season.) Pool clean and refreshing, beds perfect after a long drive, staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was a good addition and helped us get on the road early.

Located close to the historic district but far enough away to need transportation, this Hampton is representative of the chain standard. It was clean and the elevator was swift. Inside the guest room everything worked, but there was no refrigerator. The four little knob- like square pillows, after a night of elevating my head an uncomfortable six inches, flattened to a normal shape and size. Who knew that the hard, unyielding squares had been shaped that way for decorating effect? The night was made a little longer by the volume of cold air coming from the air conditioner . Turned to its lowest setting it was gusting enough to require the use of the winter comforter used to complement the decor throughout the year-a little too heavy for use in the warm months. I would have appreciated a seasonally appropriate bedcovering. The breakfast was a little better than some in other Hamptons. The eggs were artificial, but with a few ham bits not too bad. The toaster was working, but only half the heating grids were actually toasting. All in all not a bad place to stay in Edenton, but could do with a few changes made by upper level management.

We appreciate your comments and are addressing the issues that you have raised. In fact, we are currently in the process of installing new, more efficient A/C units in our guest rooms. Plus, you can always find a thinner, more summer-friendly, blanket packaged in your closet. We are confident that your next stay with us will be more comfortable. Thank you for your feedback.

The reception men and all the people from the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The cplt. house was in a very good condition. The breakfast was very good and we enjoyed it. The rooms are generous and clean. It gave all the time good coffee. The pool area was clean, very nice and so quiet. We loved it to stay here a few days for relaxing.

The free cookies and coffee in the lobby were a nice welcome to the Hampton Inn, and the breakfast area was nice. The front desk called up to check that all was well with the room, not the first time we have experienced this quality of service from Hampton. All was well. The room was nice, with a view of green countryside and the pool. (the pool was, unfortunately, on the parking lot by the dumpster) There was only one comfortable chair, though. There was relevant art of the Dismal Swamp canal and ocean.
The bed and bedding were good. The only flaw was a hole in the bathroom wall at the rack.
There was only a heavy duvet on the bed and noisy window air conditioning, a pet peeve of mine. Better to provide a light blanket in summer to save unnecessary waste of energy on air conditioning.
There was a dehumidifier in the room but it was not working. This is the first time I have seen such a thing, so didn’t do anything about it. In the southern states, this could be a good thing to have.
There was nowhere to eat near this suburban interchange location, except Wendy’s.

I don't know that there is a better option - so it may not matter - but this place is fine - not great or wonderful - not miserable - but fine. It's a small town hotel and feels like it. The room is set up a bit like a Embassy Suites without the dividing door. There was an absurd whirlpool tub in the middle. Overall it didn't feel clean - but I can't specifically say there was anything dirty - it just didn't "feel" as clean as other Hamptons. It's near the highway - but not tto close and quiet enough. The desk staff know the area and are helpful. Overall, if you are in Edenton....there just may not be a better choice.

I made reservations for this hotel because I was traveling to handle family business in the area. I asked for a room with a refregeriator because of medicine. I arrived to the hotel, they did not have a room available with a refregeriator. I was told that they could keep my medicine in the back office. I explained no that was not secure. The manager was rude, and disrespectful. The second shift front desk person offered to send a ref. to the room that is used in the back office. The ref. came to the room and it did not work. The General Manager is awful and tries to belittle clients with concerns and/or issues.
