“Peaceful southern charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

This was our first time in the area. We were driving through en route to Atlanta. I spent a lot of time researching hotels in the triangle region and finally decided upon this hotel. It is on the Duke campus which is beautifully landscaped. We saw many runners and bikers passing on the trails around the hotel. Check in was expeditious although the front desk staff was not as friendly as I would've expected. The decor was upscale and clean in both the lobby and room. We stayed in what was considered a junior suite. There was a king bed and pull out couch for the kids which was adequate for the night. There were double doors that separated the two areas for a little privacy. Although they did not lock and the curtains were somewhat sheer. We had requested the fold out couch be made up while we were at dinner, and when we returned it was not. We again called and someone came up promptly to take care of it. The staff on the floors (housekeepers and maintenance people) were friendly and always said hello. We did find a deodorant behind the tv which did not belong to us, which always puts me off a little. Otherwise, we had an excellent experience and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Wonderful stay. Perfect place to stay while visiting your student. The rooms are lovely and the staff are all so hospitable. A real dose of,southern hospitality- from the charming Southern drawl of staff members to the yummy offering of shrimp grits and gravy- everything just right. Dining or enjoying a cocktail under the tall pines while we watched the golfers wander off the course was a wonderful way to end our busy day of moving our freshman into her dorm. There was never a wait at any of the restaurants and we were very impressed because student drop off is indeed a busy time. There is a wonderful trail that winds right in front of the Inn & Club that is delightful way to enjoy exercising outside because it is all so nicely shaded.

We stayed here for four nights while on a college visit to Duke. The rooms were well appointed and very clean. Very nice decor but I'd say the restaurant and bar were our favorite parts of the hotel. Cozy yet luxurious, the bar and restaurant provided a wonderful overall experience. Would definitely stay there again as it felt well beyond a "chain" experience.

This is truly a little bit of luxury in Durham. The rooms are very comfortable and the bathroom amenities are quite nice. The restaurants are delicious. The bar has an intimate, club-like quality and a wonderful, fresh menu, and they serve food until around 11pm, so we didn't have to resort to junk food when we arrived at 10pm after a long day of travel. The grounds are lovely, right off Duke's beautiful campus, and only minutes from just about anything else in Durham (close to Chapel Hill, as well).

A lovely venue and enjoyable bar. The waduke shrimp chowder is great as is the crab cake. The draft beer selection needs more diversity, and the bar menu could use some bar menu staples. The valet/bell staff are tops.

We stayed at the Washington Duke Inn for a two day work conference. On check-in the front desk staff was very polite and prompt. A bellman was ready for those who needed help to the room. My room faced away from the golf course but that was fine with me. The room was very large and extremely clean. Bathroom was clean and had a nice glass door shower. Wifi was fast and not bogged down by other users. Breakfast and lunch were better than good for a hotel. The bar at night was crowded with regulars and young well dressed Duke collage kids. Food in the bar was full service and was open late. The ballrooms and hallways leading to the ballrooms were clean and had some interesting Duke Univ. gowns, paintings etc. I would stay here again for business or leisure. All the staff from the bar staff, front door guys to the cleaning ladies were all friendly. Just get a room facing the golf course.

Room Tip: Golf course views

From before we arrived to leaving the property, everything was wonderful. We were coming to Durham for a pre-transplant evaluation. Oxygen tanks were waiting for us, valet were available to handle luggage and the O2 we brought along. Rooms were beautiful, food great, and everyone remembered our names. The valet drove us to and from the hospital as we needed. Pool is handicap accessible. We didn't golf. Food was great.

Room Tip: Check prices on the internet. We got a wonderful special rate.
