“Pretty average Marriott”

I chose this hotel because I'm working across the street, so it couldn't be any more convenient. Also, the downtown Durham area has some interesting boutiques and restaurants to explore, so location is excellent, plus they have a shuttle to take you places, but the hotel itself is pretty average compared to other Marriotts. Marriotts are my favorite because they have the awesome concierge lounge for gold and platinum reward members, but this one needs to revamp their concierge lounge. It's super small, which is okay if there's < 10 people up there, but some mornings and evenings it can get pretty packed and you're constanty trying to maneuver out of someone's way. Other than that, the offerings are pretty much the same...I will give them bonus points for serving REAL EGGS in the moring :). Service is also very good...Parking is in an open lot across the street, so it's a little sketch, but then again--it is downtown.

Spent one night here during a recent road trip... As it was a slow night, got upgraded to the Concierge level. Check in/out process was very quick and easy. Rooms were well maintained. Wi-fi worked very well. We were a little concerned about the location (especially, parking as it was in an open lot across the street). However, it was all fine. We even walked late evening to a restaurant few blocks away and had no trouble at all. Had the buffet breakfast, which had a very good spread including an egg station. Would love to come back and stay here next time we visit Durham!

Mixed service at this hotel is the main reason for the rating. Room was fine - very comfortable and very clean, roomy. Housekeeping service didn't replenish the coffee and creamers however. The buffet breakfast in the hotel (not included) was good and reasonable price. We used the shuttle service to get to an event and the driver was terrific. Couldn't have been more helpful. However a room service breakfast didn't show up the first morning (hence visit to buffet breakfast) and a wake up call for the following day (for 530am to travel to catch a flight) didn't happen. Valet parking service was great especially with early departure. Gym was fine with elipticals with personal screens, and hotel also offers option to go to nearby YMCA. Several good restaurants and food trucks nearby

The staff were very pleasant, kind and helpful. Room was clean. Restaurant/bar was understaffed, to say the least-on a Friday night, there was 1 person who did an admirable job of being bartender, waiter, busboy. Had been hoping for a more interesting menu. Disappointed that even though the card in the room stated that passes to the YMCA across the street were available and complementary we were told that they were no longer available when requesting one at the front desk. Room service was timely, but a little inconsistent.

Recently I've had to go to Duke on business repeatedly, so I've been here twice in the past 8 months. The hotel overall is quite dated, especially the lobby and restaurant/bar. Very limited dining options. The service was spotty too. For example, room service order was missing Tabasco sauce even though I asked for it ahead of time. Not a big deal, but annoying. On the plus side, the rooms are quiet and comfortable. I've never had any problems with the temp in the room. The price is reasonable too. However, I think I might explore other alternatives the next time I'm in town.

Good experience from the beginning. Very smooth check in and staff very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is located in a great area, very convenient to shops/restaurants and DPAC. Our room was clean and spacious. Only thing, I wish we had asked for a king instead of two double beds. Otherwise bedding was comforable and clean with fresh good quality sheets and 4 comfortable pillows on each bed! Bathroom stocked with amenities. We were pleased to find out they offered a shuttle to and from the hotel within a 5 miles radius. The shuttle took us to our show at DPAC and picked us up at the end and back to the hotel. Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We requesed a quiet room and got one, away from the elevators and ice machines.

I stayed at this hotel for one night. The staff were really nice and friendly. The room was lovely and the bed was very comfortable but there were two major problems. First the heating unit was ridiculously noisy. Without it on, the room was too cold, With it on, you couldn't sleep because of the noise. The second problem was the shower. The drain was not working fast enough while I tried to get the temperature warm enough for my shower and the hot water ran out before I was done washing my hair (this was NOT a long shower).

I got this room on a Priceline reservation so for the money it was good value but bad heating units are one of my pet peeves and this one was one of the worst.

I had breakfast at the buffet and the omelet was one of the better ones I have had at a buffet in quite a while. The fresh fruit was also excellent and the service was quite good.
