Description: Using our extensive network of regional farmers and fishermen and our close friends in the wine business, we have tried to adapt the experience of a Parisian neighborhood restaurant to offer a unique dining experience. Our food is inspired by French tradition and seasonal, local produce. The wines we serve are all made by vignerons that we know personally, who themselves love food, and who craft their wine to showcase the specific terroir, while harmonizing with the meal. Most of our vignerons practice biodynamic or organic farming. Our prix fixe dinner menu showcases the freshest ingredients the southeast has to offer, prepared simply and with care, served at a bargain price. We also serve classic bistro and brasserie dishes a la carte. Our popular lunch and brunch services feature French-styled sandwiches, crepes, salads, and more.

We're eaten at Rue Cler several times a year since it opened. It's the closest we're going to get to French bistro dining in the Durham--substantial, very well prepared food, without any presentation pretensions. And for us, that's what the bistro experience is all about, and we've been spoiled by many trips to France. We think it's better than Vin Rouge, and we like having the cheese store next door. While not the fanciest place in town, it's one of the few restaurants that we choose fairly regularly.

Ru Cler is one of many Durham restaurants which brag about close relationships with local farmers and use of fresh, seasonal foods. In August, Ru Cler is offering lentil soup and beef stew; the vegetables are asparagus, mustard. It's as though they forgot to rotate the menu with the season. No fresh tomatoes in sight; no summer corn or okra or pepper. The only eggplant is fried and served with a cream sauce. And, not one bit of abundant summer fruit in a salad or dessert. Yawn.

have been a few times, and our first visit was wonderful and we had a remarkable server - return visit was not nearly as pleasant due to a surly and inattentive waiter; food is consistently delicious, though.

My fiance and I went here for Easter brunch and it was very good. The servers were friendly and it has a very enjoyable atmosphere. The food really wasn't anything special. I got an omlet which was pretty basic. I'd love to go for dinner though.

My husband is French and I've lived in France, and we consider this to be the most authentic French dining experience we've had in the US. The food is simple and well-prepared, very good, and affordable - not particularly fancy or innovative. For example, The moules frites is EXCELLENT and incredibly good value. It's true that sometimes the service is spotty and/or slow (and we've had servers snottily correct our accurate French pronounciation!) but the manager is a very good guy who will try to make it right. The spare decor (lots of bald cement) can be chilly in cool weather. We would go there both as a couple and with children, and it was a good experience either way.
