“New to me”

A new Peruvian restaurant just opened up . Glad we gave it a try. It's a reasonably small place in central Durham . The friendliness of the personnel was impressive and the service was quite good. Do not hesitate to ask questions with such a willing staff. One suggestion was a non-alcoholic beverage that was most enjoyable with its cinnamon flavor. The entrees were ample and filling. The menu had many choices -chicken, meats, and fish. My fried rice dish was excellent. It's casual.
Maybe a bit pricey but should overlook that . Recommend it. Give it a chance. We will return.

“Peruvian chicken in the South Square area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2014

It’s another Peruvian rotisserie chicken place -- and it’s really good. It’s very hidden away in the little BB&T shopping center behind the buildings at the corner of University Drive and Shannon Road, but it’s worth hunting for. I had the 1/4 rotisserie chicken meal, which comes with two sides -- fries, side salad, canary beans, rice, or yucca. The chicken was tender, moist, and flavorful. I was boring and got the fries and salad. The salad was small and decent, but not exciting. The fries were run-of-the-foodservice. The meal came with both aji amarillo (spicy yellow sauce) and huacatay (herb-y green sauce). Husband had the jalea mixta, which the menu describes as “a combination of fried seafood including shrimp, calamari, bay scallops, mussels, octopus and Pacific cod served with yucca and onions with a side of huacatay sauce.” The seafood was delicious and crisply fried, although there didn’t seem to be any scallops or mussels in this serving -- but there was plenty of everything else. The salad was on the small side, compared to the amount of seafood; we had expected the salad to be a major component of the dish. The sauce was a spicy bright yellow aji amarillo or huancaína sauce.

The restaurant has only been open for a couple of weeks. The space is utilitarian. When you walk in, it looks like you should order at the counter, but there is actually table service, and the waitstaff were very helpful, although not all of them seemed to speak a lot of English. We asked about the chicha morada Peruvian beverage and were given a sample to try -- it might be more of an acquired taste -- it's made of purple corn and flavored with cinnamon and pineapple.

“Exciting flavors . . .”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2014

This is a new restaurant serving Peruvian cuisine. My wife had a quarter chicken cooked in a traditional Peruvian charcoal rotisserie, the flavors were excellent, served with "canary beans" and rice. I had a cod fillet that had a wonderful flavor and was cooked perfectly, there was a light crust, not at all oily. They even had soft drinks from Peru.

We will visit again to try different dishes!
