Owner description: Located on Duke University's West Campus, Duke Chapel is as magnificent in structure as it is rich in ministry. Construction of the Chapel was begun in October of 1930 and completed two years later. During that time students continually congregated at the stonemasons' huts to watch the Chapel take shape. It was first used for Commencement in 1932 and was formally dedicated on June 2, 1935.Duke Chapel continues to be a Christian church of uniquely interdenominational character and purpose. Through its tradition of inspiring worship and music, and a calling to walk with people of all faiths and circumstances, Duke Chapel acts a beacon of grace on campus and in the community. All are welcome to take part in worship, learning, dialogue, and service.

Majestic, situated on the beautiful campus of Duke University. You can see the top from Duke Gardens.

Stopped in Durham on the way to the beach. My first stop was the chapel. Didn't get to go anywhere near it because of an event going on. It wasn't listed on the website either. Then stopped back in Durham on the way back home. Went to the chapel first thing. I atleast got to go to the chapel this time but wasn't able to go up to the alter or to see all the stained glass windows because there were wedding rehearsals going on later that evening. I was excited that I got to see part of the chapel but would have loved to see more. My advice would be to go during the week (Mon-Thurs) or after services on Sunday. Hopefully one day I will get to go back to see all of the chapel.

Largest pipe organ in USA. Beautiful and not to be missed! It was open and free to see. I believe they hold services on Sundays.

If you're coming from out of town & plan to visit, check on the schedule to make sure there are no weddings, etc going on. It will be closed to visitors during those time. If you come on a Sunday, the service starts @11 am, ends @ noon. Docents give a tours afterwards.

Very beautiful chapel on Duke's campus. Went to a wedding here. It holds a huge number of people. The architecture and details are something like I remember from Europe. Top rate Duke. Parking needs to be worked on but it is still a very charming and beautiful place to visit.
