Owner description: Located on Duke University's West Campus, Duke Chapel is as magnificent in structure as it is rich in ministry. Construction of the Chapel was begun in October of 1930 and completed two years later. During that time students continually congregated at the stonemasons' huts to watch the Chapel take shape. It was first used for Commencement in 1932 and was formally dedicated on June 2, 1935.Duke Chapel continues to be a Christian church of uniquely interdenominational character and purpose. Through its tradition of inspiring worship and music, and a calling to walk with people of all faiths and circumstances, Duke Chapel acts a beacon of grace on campus and in the community. All are welcome to take part in worship, learning, dialogue, and service.

This is a wonderful place to visit. If possible, try to go when the pipe organist is practicing. At the time of our visit, that was Monday at 12:30 PM. Amazing architecture.

When you think of Duke, you envision its gothic architecture and the chapel provides it. Very beautiful and a great place to take visitors.

We didn't see/take the handout that would have explained the various stained glass other items, so we have to wonder about them, but we enjoyed viewing the chapel.

This is one of the most beautiful buildings in the United States. It rivals any other cathedral built in the new world, not that I've been to them all, but I've been to St. Patrick's in NYC, which is a similar style but bigger and more ornate - gorgeous as well, of course. But Duke Chapel is quite impressive. Check out the pipe organ, and go up the bell tower if they still let you.

Duke Chapel provides an atmosphere and setting for worship that is unequaled in my book. Concerts, worship services, times just to wander in; it is spectacular. For 42 years we've come to the Chapel and I always anticipate another visit.
