Attraction details
Owner description: Located on Duke University's West Campus, Duke Chapel is as magnificent in structure as it is rich in ministry. Construction of the Chapel was begun in October of 1930 and completed two years later. During that time students continually congregated at the stonemasons' huts to watch the Chapel take shape. It was first used for Commencement in 1932 and was formally dedicated on June 2, 1935.Duke Chapel continues to be a Christian church of uniquely interdenominational character and purpose. Through its tradition of inspiring worship and music, and a calling to walk with people of all faiths and circumstances, Duke Chapel acts a beacon of grace on campus and in the community. All are welcome to take part in worship, learning, dialogue, and service.

“WOW.”

Buddy's wedding here. Beautiful - like walking into a European cathedral! Bummer about the strict rules - no cameras, got there at 6:01pm and wasn't allowed in due to the impressive punctual schedules they keep!

Beautiful and right next to Duke Gardens. Parking is hard to come by without having to pay, but it is a pretty site.

“My Daughters wedding”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

My Daughter wanted to get married there and was told there was a long waiting list. We looked for other venues and planned the entire wedding. with two weeks to go they called and had an unexpected opening. We jumped on it. They handled everything all we had to do was change the invitations. The wedding came off with out a hitch and we were glad we made the change.

“Remarkable Beauty”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Duke Chapel is a stunning architectural wonder, but what is even more wonderous is how it is used as a gathering place and central space for the Duke Community. If you are visiting, be sure to stay for Vespers services held earl evening on Thursdays. The service is ecumenical, the choir perfectly pitched and the organ music fills your body and reverberates off of the rafters.

If in the area it's worth the visit to the campus and gardens at Duke. Duke Gardens is a great place for a picnic or area for biking, reading, photography, etc.
