“Year round beauty”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is one of my favorite places to walk. Going regularly ensures that I don't miss the bloom time of anything. Winter there are the various camellias. Spring and summer the terraces are amazing. And the great blue heron flies from place to place and sometimes catches fish. In summer the turtles sun themselves of the rocks. Banana flowers in summer too. Waterfowl year round. Feed them with food from the gift shop, as stale bread is really not good for them. Wonderful place for romantic stroll, outing with the children, or for serious horticulturists.

“Seasonal, of course”

Try to do visits during the week and not on holidays to get the maximum benefit. Gift shoppe has beautiful items but can be pricey.

“Unbelievable gift”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

These gardens are an amazing gift from Duke University to the people of Durham. A beautiful oasis in the city, with lakes, different types of garden and ecoculture, paths, seating areas. We had our granddaughters' 2nd birthday picnic there - wonderful!

“Beautiful any time of the year!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

If you are searching for a peaceful, well-manicured outdoor setting with lots of trails and scenery, this is the spot for you! Wonderful places to walk, or just sit and meditate. There are lots of people, but it doesn't feel crowded (most of the time!) You can take your dog (on a leash), too! I highly recommend this place, any season! Always beautiful!

“A must-see spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Duke Gardens is many things-an oasis of beauty, a constantly changing landscape of seasonal color, a park for parents and kids, complete with ducks, geese and a heron or two.
It's a photographer's paradise, a perfect place for an outdoor portrait whether solo, bridal or family, an occasional music and dance venue, and overall a great place to lie on the grass and look at the sky.
