“Not your average restaurant”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Unusual menu. Great salads, and filling too. Hamburgers different from most I have had and I've had a lot. The portions on the above mean you don't need a side salad or dessert with their meals. My biggest picky is that it's too dark during lunch and if you are having a business lunch or need to read anything, it's tough. Most folks don't need a romantic atmosphere at lunch.
Lots of odd choices which is a good thing. Service is usually good, at times a bit slow, but the food is hot, hasn't been sitting around, which is great as some places finish cooking and the waitstaff is too busy to pick up until the food is cold, a real downer.

“Local Favorite”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

We live less than a mile from this fantastic local favorite. They have a great beer list and a great regular menu. The specials are always unique and made with local ingredients. It's a funky place that always hits the spot.

“ehh.”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

I like the food and atmosphere, but I have to be honest and say that the servers are not always the nicest. They have pretty rigid rules about seating even if you call ahead. This is the closest bar to my house but I don't go based on multiple bad experiences. There are too many great places in Durham to spend money at a place that doesn't value customer service.

“FOOD POISONING!!!”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

I ate the chile relleno at City Beverage and became violently ill roughly 3-4 hours later. When calling the next day to alert the staff, I was barely apologized to and basically accused of assuming my illness was from the food at City Beverage. Do not eat here, especially if there is any sort of threat of sanitation issues. I will never be going back to this restaurant.

“Hard to Beat”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

City Beverage offers a small but varied menu and a wide selection of draft and bottled beer. The food is well prepared and appetizing. Had an omelet there Friday, 3 eggs, gruyere, mushrooms and sausage served with a side of their garlic fries. Lunch or dinner here is always a great choice. It gets a little noisy in the evenings because it's a popular watering hole.
