“not your typical pizza place”

Great pizza. Limited menu. Wish I could build my own pie but that is just not an option. Great food, just take a look at the menu first.

“Great Vibe!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

The pizzeria is a fun vibe with a small but excellent menu. This place is usually very busy most evenings and may require a little bit of a wait. Children who are used to Domino's Pizza may not like these pizzas because they have some unique toppings so I wouldn't recommend it for small kids. I usually order the Kale Salad with Prosciutto side or the Spicy Lamb Meatballs Pizza. The seating is primarily at long tables so you may be dining next to strangers, typical to New York or some large city dining. It is a great atmosphere but I have to agree with others that is is pricey and a better value at dinner rather than lunch. There are two sides to this place, one is the bar side that most people don't know exists and the restaurant. It is cool to watch them cook the pizza's in the open brick oven. It can be warm at the tables next to the oven in the Summer time.

There is usually parking on the street for free but there are a few parking decks a couple of blocks away that are no more than $5. On the corner there is a cup cake bar if you want dessert. Most people I have taken to this restaurant have enjoyed it!

“Fresh, tasty pizza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

We went to Pizzeria Toro for the first time after doing a (wonderfully successful) walking tour of downtown Durham. We were hot and starving when we arrived, and the good beer, plentiful water, and attentive service were just what we needed. My husband and I shared a san marzano tomato and mozzarella pizza with proscuitto di Parma added. The crust was light but filling. The tomatoes and mozzarella tasted fresh and lovely and set off the saltiness of the prosciutto perfectly. There may have been a bit too much oil on the pizza, but it was so tasty that it worked well with the leftover crusts. It was a light but filling meal--perfect for a hot summer's day. We will certainly go back.

“Prima”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

The best pizza we've had in a long time. The marguerite and Italian sausage ones were excellent; the anchovy taste on the potato pizza was just a bit too overpowering. The peach, burrata and pistachio appetizer was exquisite. The seasonal gelato/sorbet combo was refreshing but the olive oil cake was a bit too dense. Definitely worth a return trip

“Incredible pizza!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

A colleague of mine recommended this restaurant, and all I knew going in was that it had really good pizzas. When I looked at the menu, I immediately zeroed in on a white pizza with summer squash, ricotta, and garlic. The pizza was cooked in a wood-fired oven, the squash was paper-thin, and the flavor was perfect. The crust was very thin as well, and the pizza wasn't heavy. I had enough room for an incredible chocolate pudding with hazelnuts for dessert. I would highly recommend this place!
