After much research for a spot while passing thru Durham we arrived at Blue Note for lunch. The pulled pork BBQ sandwich was great with the coleslaw and baked beans. The highlight was the warmed bread pudding served with icecream :) smashing!

I have visited this spot a few times now, as I live nearby and love live music, especially when it's free, which is usually the case at Blue Note, thankfully. The crowd here is local, and locally proud, and friendly I have found. A nice, mature place to hang out and have a beer. Also, the food is really homey and good. Not healthy, but very southern and bluesy. I love the pork chop sandwiches and the quesadillas and the sweet potatoe fries and most especially the bread pudding. I feel that these guys do exactly the kind of food they should be doing in a blues bar sitting in the middle of a southern town and I'm thankful they are here making real food in this way.

Blue Note Grill is a not-so-hidden gem. Locally it is well known for having live music every night of the week. Typically the bands play jazz, blues, R&B, or bluegrass from about 8 or 9pm onwards. I would give the place a higher rating except for the food. It may be great for those who prefer southern fried food, but nor for me. Most times we just go for a drink, listen to music and dance on the tiny dance floor. The patrons are mostly regulars and, combined with the friendliness of the staff, make for a pleasant atmosphere. Definitely a place to go.

Had the pleasure last night to enjoy some really good Blues, and a really good pulled pork sandwich. Jam night at the Blue Note, so you get quite an eclectic musical experience. The sandwich was served with slaw on it, and I had sweet potatoe fries as a side, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed. My nephew was with me, and he tried the 1/2 rack ribs, thinking he'd take some home later. Pretty soon, no ribs left. He reported they were really great! He had them served wet, along with fried okra and slaw. All good. Later, we shared a bread pudding, which was soo good! Buttery, caramelly. Definitely will make a return trip to this place. BTW, the owners and staff were super nice.

Looking for a place for ribs in Durham, look no further than the BNG. Dry or wet ribs, pulled pork sandwich and the sweet potato fries are awesome. If you have room left, be sure to try one of Andrea's desserts. You will not be disappointed. A bonus to the BNG is the great Blues music played there. Go on a Tuesday night for the free Blues jam.
