Description: Southern tobacco factory turned upscale Italian restaurant, 604 West Village provides a delicate balance between the rustic and the chic. The high ceilings and exposed wooden rafters convey a piece of Durham's history while setting the background for diners to enjoy an exquisite meal. Our talented chefs pour locally sourced meats and produce into contemporary interpretations of regional Italian cuisine. The beauty and simplicity of the dishes are complemented by the carefully-selected wine list and hand-crafted cocktails. 604'S wine list features a rotating selection of Italian wines offered by the glass and a bottle selection from around the globe. The bartenders find their inspiration in classic cocktails and create a range of Italian-themed beverages using fresh juices, an array of bitters, and herbs from the garden. Backed by sparkling glassware and a wide selection of cocktail options, 604's bar offers guests an intimate service experience. In the dining room, outfitted with tables constructed of reclaimed wood and bordered by austere brick walls, the historical charm provides the setting for a cozy dinner for two or a relaxing night out with family and friends. Just outside, the spacious patio with its tranquil garden setting provides the perfect 'al fresco' dining experience.

Carol and I decided to try out this recommended restaurant last Friday night (7/19) prior to a Durham Bulls baseball game. Kelly was very attentive as a waitperson and made good recommendations for our wine selection. We both had salads as an appetizer and the swordfish entrée for our main meal. The salads were quite delicious and freshly made. The swordfish was good portion and the sweet potato puree underneath was a nice touch.

It was a good meal but not for the price. We have had better meals at Watts Grocery which is superior in quality and quantity of the meal.

We enjoyed Mother's Day Brunch at 604 West Village. The food was fresh and nicely plated. The service was very good too. What a hip place! The only thing was that there was no children's menu nor would they make only one waffel. My Grandson's brunch consisted of a baugette and jam while we feasted on fresh farmers eggs, pork and gnocci. They did have colored pencils and a coloring page so he kept himself busy. Should have expected kids on Mother's day even though they are more suited to couples.

We were there for a wedding rehearsal dinner -- usually does not bring out the best in a restaurant. No so here. Dinner and service was spot on -- and delicious!

This was our second visit in 6 weeks. We bought discounts through Living Social and ate early before attending a play at DPAC. The ambience is pretty good as was the service. But the food got mixed reviews from our group. Lamb shank was very good but the parm crusted chicken was overdone and seemingly absent the brown butter caper sauce. The potato leek soup was good but the mixed salad a little limp. Also the second time we visited we were not able to order half size portions of the pasta. No explanation, just not available like it was for our first visit. I wouldn't go back.

Simply great location, outdoor seating, really cool old tobacco warehouse. The food was good, but not special--disappointing because it's not inexpensive. I will give it one more try but it wasn't memorable.
