“Good Mexican Fare”

Very noisy but nice appointments, good service and good Mexican food. Upscale, read that fairly expensive. "It ain't no Taco Bell!"

“awesome food and a good strong mojito”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

we sat outside on the terrace on a beautiful evening. take the option over waiting for a table inside.
fantastic food ; the Guac was epic with hot fresh nachos. Catfish tacos were sublime and the Mojitos had an awesome kick. Service was fast and friendly.
Really cant fault this place

“NC Mex, not Tex Mex”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

I'm from Texas and travel in Mexico a lot. Mez is kind of a fusion of the best of NC and Mexico. Very interesting, great service, and great decor.

“Not your typical Mexican, and that's a good thing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants that claim to be "upscale" or "contemparay" that were really just more expensive versions of what you'd find at a typical mexican place. This was not the case here. The atmosphere was a bit loud for my personal taste, but the decor was excellent, lively without falling into the tackiness that many mexican places fall victim to. The food was amazing and had well balanced flavor. We had their queso appetizer and enjoyed every last cheesy morsel of it. One of the few times I've had a dish like that without it having a layer of grease on it. I had their Pescano Veracruz (trout was the fish of the day) and had one of the best pieces of fish I've had where I couldn't throw a football into an ocean. Perfectly cooked and the sauces complimented it without overpowering the fish, a perfect balance of flavors. Dad had the shrimp fajitas and made a similar statement. Amazing churros for dessert, told the waiter I wanted to come back in the morning and get more for breakfast.

Amazing experience, especially for the price. Even the sangria was good, the rare time it wasn't horribly sweet.

“Don't go there for the food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

Four of us had dinner at Mez on 9/15/13. The restaurant's appearance is very nice. The service was very good. Unfortunately, the food was merely average. What a disappointment. Two of us had grilled chicken quesadillas, one had chicken fajitas, and one had Enchiladas de Espinacas. Without exception, the entrees were average to below average. Most Mexican restaurants we have visited in Durham outdo Mez, except for the ambiance...and they do so at lower prices.
