“Italian sandwich place, good food, little atmosphere”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

This small place in downtown Durham in an old building services a variety of Italian Sandwiches made fresh to order. The bread in the sandwiches are really good. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. However the atmosphere is really really bland. Also the sandwiches don[t even come with a pickle or any sort of garnishment at all which is unusual. So great place for sandwiches, good downtown location, but atmosphere and presentation could stand some improvement.

“reliably perfect”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

funny thing about durham - there are always lots of new and interesting restaurants, and yet if you ask townies what their favorite place to eat is, a surprising number of them (myself included) will say toast. it is not a fancy place, or an expensive one. the modest menu consists of about 20 variations on a theme - panini, sandwiches, bruschetta, crostini - and a couple of soups and a salad. they have a cooler full of beer and soda and a few wines and desserts. they have a dozen tables inside and a handful outside - the big news is that they now have umbrellas for their outside tables. it is just a nice little sandwich shop.

also, it's kind of perfect. everything there is consistently delicious, every single time. kelli is always delightful and cheerful when she takes your order, and the servers are always friendly. the atmosphere is happy and relaxed.

so yes, i go there regularly, and every time i do, i get one of the best meals i've had in a restaurant - just as good as the first time i went there years ago, and with any luck, just as good as the one i will get 10 years from now. in this very foodie little city, it is indeed my favorite restaurant.

“Best lunch place Downtown”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Doesn't quite have the atmosphere to be a night place, but for daytime the food and the ambiance is excellent for business or for social or a lunch date.

“Fresh and delicious sandwiches”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

When you're in Durham, seek out this wonderful sandwich shop. The bread is fresh and interesting, and the sandwiches are creative and delicious. It's a small place and packed at lunchtime, so try to visit before or after lunch.
