This restaurant can be easily missed if you're looking for it. It sits at the end of a strip mall in Duck and the sign out front is at the bottom of a list of businesses within that mall. We drove right by it the first time and almost ended up at the Dockside, a restaurant further up the road which sits on a point and is painted blue! After we got turned around and headed back towards Duck we spotted the real Blue Point. We did not have a window seat (which had a fantastic view of the water), but it was a rainy evening, so did not matter anyway. If it had been a beautiful evening the window seat would have been worth reserving ahead. It was a mid-week night in October and were told reservations were not necessary. We were seated quickly. Our server was prompt to take our drink orders and our glasses of wine arrived while we were looking over the extensive menu. I think anything on the menu would have been very good, but we both ordered the scallops that were perfection personified. Our total bill for 2 for wine, entrees, tax and tip was $123.47. A bit pricey, but probably not out of line for a resort area with a view. Best restaurant in Duck if you want an up-scale restaurant.

The ambiance at Blue Point is definitely "down home" Outer banks beach, but the food is "elegant" Southern-style. Very good service; we had an experienced waitress that made us feel welcome and comfortable. The occasion was a family-member birthday; practically everyone in the restaurant joined in the celebration. Blue Point is on the sound-side (facing west), so try to get there at dusk for the sunset.

We had such a great meal and experience on our 2nd vacation night, we went back on our 3rd night! Everything we tried was top notch delicious! Salads were fresh, inventive~ who would think pomegranate seeds could be so luscious? The fresh grilled mahi, beef tenderloin, pork, soups, all were done to perfection. The service is friendly, fun, attentive, and they have the BEST spot for sunsets on their deck! We'd go back to Duck just to eat here again, it's worth the trip!

After reading all the excellent reviews, we made a reservation for our first trip to the OBX. We booked a table by the window and were very excited but the meal didn't live up to expectations. Good wine list but on the high side. She crab soup was very good but the entrees really fell flat. While we appreciate inventive takes, the combinations just didn't work. Fried catchfish with a very bizzare combo of cold vegetable salad with ham was inedible and wait staff didn't even inquire why plate returned to the kitchen barely touched. Similarly crab and scallop entrees were disappointing. That said, homemade ice cream (coffee, bourbon) might have been the best ice cream I have ever had. Wouldn't return or recommend to others.
