“Great fish!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2014

I went with a group of 4 here while in the Outer Banks. We all loved our meals! We all had seafood and each meal was cooked perfectly. We also started with salads that were delicious. Tasty cocktails too.

Our server was great! Very friendly and gave honest, helpful suggestions.

Highly recommend reservations. If you are early, you may be ok without one. But we saw some people later in the evening (8:30 or so) told that they were completely booked.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2014

We were so lucky, called for a reservation the night of and there was a cancellation, we were a party of seven!! The restaurant is quite small inside and is packed, so reservations are a much, but don't wait until last minute like we did. I ordered the grilled shrimp & grits, WOW! Beyond delicious. My son had the crab cakes, loved them and the huge hunk of cornbread that came with it. Sampled the crab dip, pizza, tuna, pot stickers & grilled romaine salad for apps, all were yummy. Service was very professional and quick. The price is a bit high for the area, but being from NY, what I would expect of a higher end restaurant, this is not a burger stop. Great beer selection, the beer drinkers were quite pleased. I ordered a mojito and it was a real mojito, not the syrupy sweet concoctions most bars pump out..so good! I passed on dessert, I was stuffed, but others had key lime pie and the chocolate, caramel brownie, everyone said they were delicious. The dress is casual, shorts and a button up shirt are fine for the men. If you are looking for a higher end dining experience in Duck, then this is the place.

“Super delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014

The Paper Canoe was so fabulous--we ate there twice! Fortunately, we had a reservation the first time, and they were able to make room for us the second night at the bar. The sunset views are beautiful from this charming restaurant. The first night I had the striped bass and grits, and everything was perfect and wonderful. Also, there side of cornbread is well-worth ordering: delicious!! The second night I had their bacon wrapped filet, and it, too, was superb. For dessert, we had their apple pastry and chocolate dessert/brownie. While both were good, the chocolate one was exceptional. Wonderful place!

Nice view, hard wooden seats tasty duck slightly under cooked in middle medallions. Trout good but small portion Shrimp and crab ordered got crab cakes. Sent it back and received what was ordered. It was very good. Pot stickres were excellent for an app. so was the clam chowder. Wait staff was excellent.
I would go again but on the pricy side.

“dining on the sound”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2014

We popped into the restaurant on a recommendation with no reservation and the manager was just wonderful - having us wait with drinks on the back deck overlooking the sound while she had a table prepared. Both the dining room and bar areas are very open with lots of windows to watch the sun set over the water. The food is excellent with lots of choices and specials. The shrimp and grits is tremendous! Great wine and beer list as well. A wonderful place that welcomes families and special occasions at the beach.
