Four of us dined there on a Tuesday night with a reservation for 6:45pm instead of the 7:00pm we had requested. We were interested in a leisurely dining experience on our last night in Duck but the server was intent on getting us out of there as quickly as possible. We paid our check at 7:59pm with the place mostly empty and we not likely return for a second visit. The server insisted that we order everything we wanted from the menu at the same time and wouldn't allow us to order one course at a time.

The White Pizza we shared as a pre-appetizer should have been called the naked pizza because there was hardly any cheese or other toppings on it. We were left wanting. We also shared two pulled duck appetizers that were tasty, but quite small. The grilled Romaine was decent.

Because of the server, two in our party passed on getting mains because they weren't sure how hungry they'd be after the pizza and the appetizers. My wife and I had the Roasted Chicken and 14 oz Ribeye, respectively. Both mains were very good, but the server had already sabotaged this evening. Nearly $200 poorer and 74 minutes after arriving, we were out the door.

You just can't beat the view at sunset and the food was great. It is a little noisy because the room we were seated in was just a big room with not dividers. There is another room which looked to be smaller and more intimate. We loved it though.

Ambiance is a bit loud. Food was great and priced favorably.
Get the oysters before they sell out and fish of the day!

We kept it simple, fresh local catch of the day and scallops. We split the grilled pound cake topped with pears. The sunset magnificent. Yes it was loud, people were having a good time....

Paper Canoe is a new and excellent restaurant in Duck, NC., On the Albermarle Sound, besides creative food it offers beautiful sunset views.

The chef, Joe Russo, has cooked in many of the OBX's better places and comes to his own place experienced and unafraid to do new things with old favorites. The garlic mashed potatoes are unlike any we've had before-and better! Our party of four enjoyed the crab cakes; found the rib eye tasty, well-seasoned and juicy; loved the Mahi Mahi. The accompaniments were appropriate to the entrees and well-liked by all.

We shared the grilled pound cake dessert and almost wished we'd each ordered one-but that would have been too much.

Overall, a new OBX stop for foodies along with nearby Blue Point and, farther south, Flyin Fish and Collington Cafe.
