We recently stayed two nights while celebrating my sister's wedding. My husband and I were married at the Sanderling 5 years ago and I was very pleased to see all of their recent renovations. They are preserving the charm of "old" Duck, while upgrading the necessary items throughout their property. The room was very modern, clean and offered all of the expected amenities (flat screen TV, coffee maker, complimentary water and homemade granola with the recipe and a note from the Chef.) We had breakfast at the Lifesaving Station. Service was great and price was reasonable. The property is still undergoing renovations so I anticipate that it will continue to improve. They do need to work on all of the decking. It appears that they are replacing with composite materials as being so close to the ocean takes its toll on the wood surfaces and exteriors of buildings quickly. While we were there I also had Spa services. The Spa staff was beyond professional and made our celebration a relaxed and pampered one.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Sanderling right after Columbus Day. Even though it was mid-week and off season the Sanderling was very popular. This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and we had selected the Sanderling based upon reports from friends and TripAdvisor reviews. It was a good time of year to experience the Outer Banks. Other than one afternoon of rain, the weather was warm and sunny and there weren't the summer crowds or traffic.

We called ahead to let them know we would be arriving late. When we got to the Sanderling the staff was very friendly and efficient. When we got to the room the bed had already been turned down for us. While we were there we ate in both of their restaurants which were very good and my wife used the spa. In the mornings we got up and walked along the beach.

The Sanderling is located north of the town of Duck and a 15 to 20 minute drive from the more commercial parts of the Outer Banks. So it is best if you are interested in more quiet, secluded atmosphere. But it was convienent for visiting the Outer Bank sites like Kitty Hawk, Roanoke Island, and Jockey's Ridge State Park (with some pretty impressive sand dunes). It is also a short drive into Duck for restaurants and shopping.

We had a great time and would definitely return on our next trip to the OBX.

We found the Sanderling after we canceled our Honeymoon to Mexico due to a hurricane. We couldn't have been happier with our luck on booking there! We originally intended to stay for four nights but enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed an extra night. You can't beat a view of the ocean and the opportunity to see the sunset over the Sound. Everyone from reservations, to the front desk, to the concierge, to the manager of the Left Bank treated us fabulously. We highly recommend both restaurants and bars on site, and we're so happy we took advantage of the Audubon walking/running trail and kayak expedition. We'll definitely be celebrating anniversaries there!

My husband and I just spent our 25th anniversary at The Sanderling. We stayed there two nights, but wished we had stayed longer. We loved the ocean view from our comfortable room. I enjoyed a facial at the spa while my husband took a swim in the lap pool. The staff was friendly and efficient.

In October of 2010, we stayed in the Sanderling Resort in Duck, on the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina. We had an overall wonderful experience there. The rooms are casual, but elegant. The lobby areas are full of beautiful wood carvings of wildlife and are comfortable to hang out in. There are 2 restaurants on site: the casual restaurant is in a restored life saving station (photo). The staff was very helpful, down to the waiter in the restaurant, who spent 10 minutes writing down places we should see in the area. Centrally located for touring the northern Outer Banks, yet away from all the hassle of the highly traveled main tourist areas.

Located in the quaint area of Duck, this resort had everything we wanted and needed. It started with a clean gracious size room with a flat panel TV. We then started our morning at the “Life Saving Station” restaurant for a fabulous breakfast. We went into Kitty Hawk for a day of exploration and shopping. After a non-stop day, the girls unwinded their day with a lot of pampering at the Sanderling Spa. We then went to the “Left Bank” for some fine dining that rivaled the fine dining we enjoy in New York City. I then went on our balcony and had a cigar and watched the sunset. And this was only the first day.
