Amazing food, particularly the drinks and desserts, and amazing sunset. This is a must for your trip. You are warned though that the truffle fries can be addicting.

Went with a group of friends. The place immediately struck me as more casual than I had expected, which was fine. There was live music in the bar and we were seated against the window for dinner so we could watch the last 30 minutes or so of the sunset. Despite there being several open tables throughout the place, they put us at one that was so close to the table next to us that the backs of our chairs were touching. Ok. Maybe they just figured the sunset was important enough. So then we sit and wait for service to begin. Took awhile - not forever, but awhile - for the server to get our drink orders, and then when he did, he slipped over one of the guests, who then had to wait for her drink. He was very nice about it and apologized, so we didn't think much of it at the time. We had to ask about ordering starters, which just told me we were going to have to be in charge of the evening - not ideal, but not the first time. Just sort of amateurish and not you hope for at a restaurant. So the starters come - we order truffle fries and the cheese plate. I think they either need to increase the price of the cheese plate and/or just give you more cheese. The portions were hilariously small, and really couldn't be shared amongst 7 people. But what we got was very tasty. One guest ordered a salad for her dinner but it came out with the appetizers, so she just left it sitting until everyone else got their food. People at the table ordered cheeseburger (she ate it all and said it was good), sushi (didn't hear one way or another about it), fish tacos (we all tried them and liked them), gnocchi with duck, and chicken
Fingers for one of the children. I had the gnocchi, and it was really disappointing. The meat really didn't taste like duck at all, and the gnocchi were sort of hard and not very fresh tasting. And then the whole dish just sort of lacked seasoning. I then finished my meal before the chicken fingers came at all. Seemed like the server forgot to put them in, or something happened in the kitchen. Either way, they were really late. So at this point, it's been a mediocre night, but not awhile by any means. We're not grumpy people - and are on our last night of vacation so we're having fun. The drinks, btw, got rave reviews. They must have a crack bartender. At any rate, we decided to order desserts. The kids got a funnel cake, which I thought was a cool thing to have on a menu, and which looked and tasted great. A few of us got key lime "creme brûlée", which was really interesting and tasty, but not really creme brûlée at all. The bread pudding was tasty too, though it came in a loaf slice shape, which was unusual. Very dense, not crispy top edges that you get when you bake it in a ramekin. SO ... Overall, the price wasn't bad, the server was really nice if not particularly on top of things, and some of the food we ordered was pretty good. Not sure I'd go back though - unless it was for drinks and maybe fish tacos in that beautiful bar at sunset. Hard to beat that!

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. I apologize if the tables and chairs got uncentered; sometimes people spread out, I will look at this closer before the night starts. The service snags can be improved on. This also may relate to your dissatisfaction with the duck. Over Easter we braised lamb instead, and this was a verbal change. Our communication can be better when there is a change to the menu. Sorry for the shortfalls, it sounded like a few bright spots and maybe enough for you to visit us again while you are in Duck, Sincerely, Lynette

We joined a small group yesterday for a "restaurant tour" kicking off Taste of the Beach on the Outer Banks, an annual culinary event. We visited four locations during the afternoon; tasting, and learning more about local cuisine destinations. It was our first visit to this delightful, soundside spot. While the purpose of our visit yesterday was an exploration of sorts, it tempted enough to know that we want to return. We tasted an awesome sampling of braised short ribs and some very interesting ales. The views are incredible from the bar to the dining room. Our host, Lynette, one of the owners, was delightful! She opened up the kitchen, introduced us to the Executive Chef who described amazing preparations of local fish and gave us a tour of the spa upstairs (yes, there's a spa upstairs!). As she says their goal is to provide their patrons with a place in Duck, beautifully situated, where people can come and have a wonderful experience. We will return!
