“Fantastic pre-college visit inn”

My family and I stayed at the inn the day before a college visit to Davidson. It was lovely! The staff, especially Mary who gave us a fantastic recommendation for the Italian place next door, were wonderfully hospitable. The room was just --- perfect. A definite 'RECOMMEND'.

The Lake Norman area has many chain hotels along the interstate where your expectations will be met. Or for the same price, you can stay at the Davidson Village Inn, where your expectations will be surpassed. I had a great visit at the Inn when I was in town for business recently, and it provided a pleasant and memorable introduction to the area.

Davidson is a little jewel of a town with a charming ambiance, but you can get to it in five minutes or so off the interstate, The Davidson Village Inn is right off Main St. with a number of cute restaurants and shops literally around the corner. The movie theater, library and post office are blocks away, and the college is across the street. A five-minute drive takes you to a large grocery store, and waterfront dining at Lake Norman just across the interstate.

My room was tastefully decorated, very large, pristinely clean, and included a comfortable sitting area with couch, table and chairs, as well as a writing desk. There was also a refrigerator and microwave. Complimentary wi-fi in my room was speedy and reliable, and there is a computer in the lobby with a printer for boarding passes, etc. There is amble free parking adjacent to the Inn and an elevator makes everything accessible.

Breakfast includes a generous variety of fresh fruits, cereals, yogurt, cottage cheese, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, grits and an assortment of sweet breads, pastries and donuts. There was a toaster with a whole separate table of other breads and many different juices as well as tea and coffee. There are even items marked as gluten-free. It your heart is set on scrambled eggs and hot meats like bacon you can go to Toast over on the next street, but there is plenty at the Inn to give you a hearty breakfast. They also serve a lovely tea with cookies and other savories in the afternoons.

The Davidson Village Inn does not have a pool or workout center. There is however, a pretty little park down the hill where I saw people fishing, and ample areas to walk or jog around the town and Davidson college campus.

The staff at the Inn are friendly, accommodating, and treat you as an honored guest. They are quick to offer tips, suggestions and advice on getting the most from your stay. They are residents of the area with a lot of knowledge about Davidson and the college. It is a cliche for businesses to say that they treat you like family, but at the Davidson Village Inn they really do. From Mary who made my reservation over the phone, to Joy who checked me out at my departure, the staff members couldn't have been more gracious.

Gordon and Rebecca Clark, the innkeepers, have a pedicab on site that guests can reserve a complimentary ride on. Gordon was kind enough to give me a lengthy trip around the Davidson campus and town, sharing interesting information and history along the way.

The Inn is obviously perfect for travel centered around Davidson College, but it would also be ideal for couples trips, girls getaways, and for those in town for business who would like a memorable stay in the area.

Room Tip: Some have said that the rooms on the top floor are quieter, but I was on the 2nd floor and found the...

Over the past four years my wife and I have been staying at the Davidson Village Inn while visiting our granddaughter at Davidson College. We cannot say enough kind words for the Inn and its staff. We we made to feel at home and the kind and generous treatment over the years by Joy and the other staff made our stay very enjoyable. On our last journey to celebrate granddaughter's graduation, the staff made special arrangements for us to eat our breakfast early since we had to be on the road.... coffee was prepared in advance and our favorite yogurt and cereals were waiting for us. We shall miss the Davidson Village Inn now that granddaughter has graduated but our appreciation for its hospitality shall not be forgotten. Thank you to Joy and the rest of the staff.

We stayed for a wedding so I have no idea what the rates are, but the Inn was beautiful. We had adjoining rooms which were spacious, clean, and well decorated. The staff was friendly, the breakfasts good, but my favorite part was the afternoon tea with cookies. Very relaxing, peaceful, and quiet.

We had a great stay at the Davidson Village Inn while visiting for a family wedding. The location is perfect, right next to the university and near several great little shops. We were there on the weekend and there's a nice farmer's market just down the block. The hotel is immaculately clean and the rooms were very large with comfortable beds. We were treated so kindly by the hotel staff. The continental breakfast was nice with some variety and good coffee.

We stayed here in March 2014. The location is perfect for visiting Davidson College. The price was a little higher than the hotels out on the interstate, but the location made up for this because we could walk everywhere. There was an adequate, but not spectacular, breakfast. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable, though the bathroom felt a little shabby and the shower did make a decidedly unpleasant high-pitched noise. But these are small complaints. Overall, it was a very nice stay. The staff was particularly charming.

We stayed at the Village Inn in September 2013, and found the location to be perfect for visiting our student on campus. The price was a little higher than the hotels out on the interstate, but the location made up for this difference because we could walk everywhere.

The room was good sized, clean and comfortable. Coffee & tea were available for us all day, and breakfast was included. We would stay here again.
