My daughter had a made to order vegetable plate with sweet potato risotto, asparagus and hand-made fries. Tasty. I had a hummus appetizer which totally hit the spot. I highly recommend this corner establishment, which also features live music.

We had lunch there on Oct. 7th. Normally the service and the food is outstanding which lead me to lots of referrals to my friends and neighbors who actually went to patronize your restaurant. That day, the service was extremely slow and my wife's "appetizer" hanger steak came in cold. We didn't request a new one because it was going to take forever anyways. The portion size also cannot be called lunch, sorry. I think you should review the portion size of that dish. As an example (compared to other fine dining place), BLT Steak in uptown charges $24 for theirs and it is a 10oz. Yours is probably 4oz (if even that) and it is $13... I would strongly suggest doing at least a 6oz for that price.

I had the special and was grateful for the opportunity since the steak menu was surprisingly limited. The filet was cooked as ordered, medium, and the size was generous. It came with a few asparagus and cold skin on mashed potatoes, which were promptly replaced with hot ones. The Cabernet was excellent as was the service and atmosphere. This is worth a second visit when steak is not on my mind. Special with wine, $44. Parking is limited, but spaces are available on a Sunday evening.

With a few hours of unexpected "free" time, we drove to Davidson, North Carolina and parked the car and walked around the BEAUTIFUL Davidson College campus. The place is postcard perfect with the old buildings and the huge old trees. It looked a lot like the old yard at Harvard.

We walked the main street and strolled in a few small shops that are located in very old buildings. Then we happened upon a new building that's designed to look old at a traffic triangle. It contained the Flatiron Kitchen and Taphouse.

There is a large circular bar in the middle of the room with some TV's on the ceiling. The rest of the place had an upscale rustic restaurant look. Thick wooden tables and hard chairs hid the soft touch somebody has in the kitchen.

This is not a sports bar with chicken wings and nachos and beer.

The chicken and waffles were not the variety you'd find at some roadside shack in California. They came with a twist. In fact, every item seemed to have an unexpected surprise. The shrimp and grits were not a few shrimp thrown on top of a bowl of creamy grits. The grits came in the form of a lightly fried grit "cake." The salmon was served on top of the most delicious roasted corn salad I've every tasted.

The meatloaf was heavy-- and a lot of food. It was wrapped in bacon and in a pastry.

The star of our meal was a "Bar Bite" -- two huge soft pretzels cut in half and stuffed into a silver Kentucky Derby style cup. They were served with cheese fondue. This was only $5!

This is a place worth returning to.
