“Very nice find in Davidson”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

Great appetizers and drinks here. Wines by the glass and good beer selection, even a featured brewery each month (Victory and Founders were most recently). Only appetiser that was a little off the mark was the calamari, very thick cut, not rings - cooked perfectly, but very large bross sections of squid to handle - a bit overwhelming and a poor ratio of breading/fried goodness to calamari, though sauce was nice.

Steaks, burgers, fish are all cooked perfectly; duck was overcooked and despite being a breast needed more fat rendering, though certainly less time over heat, it was cooked on the done side of medium - a disappointment.

Desserts are decadent, yet on the light side - triple cake and bread pudding are well-executed, but the creme brulee, although good flavor, is too runny.

“Not worth the $$$”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Waygu beef baguette appetizer underwhelming, 2 slices if chewy beef on crunchy bread, not worth the price tag.

Butchers tenderloin was likewise a disappointment, chewy and bland, only slight flavor from wood fired grill. Mushroom risotto was flavorful, best part of the dish were the ale braised onions that topped the steak.

Doughnuts for desert were reasonable value for the cost.

We also used a Groupon for the beer samplers and appetizer yet somehow ended up paying out of pocket for limitations that were not clearly stated.

Bottom line, would like to give them a second chance, but multiple disappointments in one night, am afraid I will just be disappointed again.

“Chef Anthony really has it together”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Chef Anthony is a natural, and it shows up in his fare, as well as, his "story" about how he came to Flatiron. He prides himself on the quality of the product coming out of his kitchen, the freshness of the ingredients and meeting the taste requirements of his patrons. As far as we could tell he is quite a success!!!!

“Great ambience, wretched food, lackluster service”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

The restaurant was not busy at 8:45pm on a Saturday evening. Server arrived promptly, when we asked for a moment to decide on drinks he disappeared for 10 minutes, had to wave him over. My wife's Ceasar salad was 5 or 6 scrawny Romaine leaves stacked on a plate; terrible quality/presentation. She swapped it for a Wedge salad like mine, hers arrived 1/2 the size of mine. Calimari fries were chewy & bland. Server seemed to have a "whatever" attitude. Good beer selection but terrible food. $14 for a hamburger? Messed up salads? Mediocre service? There are better places in Davidson to dine. Go here for a beer or glass of wine...maybe.

“Waited one hour for food after ordering then walked out”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

Visited Flatiron on what appeared to be a slow night. The restaurant appeared only 25% full. Promptly ordered food and drinks from the bar. About 45 minutes later, the waiter came back to ask what we had ordered again. During this time, we'd been offered no bread or anything to hold us over. Other patrons received their food timely, so I suspect our waiter failed to turn in our order. Received no real apology for the mistake, had to pay $13 for the three drinks and left without having a single bite of anything to eat. Horrible experience!!
