LuThe master bedroom was my dream room! There was no mold anywhere in the bathroom, the toilet worked just fine. The speakers in the house worked if your smart enough to use them! The refrigerators worked perfect, as did the oven. The pots pans and dishes were all clean. The grill was dirty but wasn't anything that couldn't be cleaned. Washer and dryer worked perfectly! All of the tv's worked just fine, as did the DVD players! The movie theater was used the most! Giant TV to root on the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins and the Steelers (all in the same week!) the people with the HOUSE OF HORRORS review must've been an complete idiot, because everything electronically worked just fine. Ice maker worked just fine and was clean. Pool table was dirty again because other renters. The pool was more than amazing! We cleaned the filter daily (little frogs get in there) and skimmed daily. The hot tub was nothing short of relaxing, I didn't get electrocuted once!
Now onto the beach, we went in off season so the speed limit is raised. Yes you need to watch your children (which I hope your doing anyway.) no one in our group got stuck. We followed all rules and suggestions on sand driving. We watched high and low tides as well. If you want privacy this is part of the package.
My wedding was amazing and the owner made sure I was happy with the house! The houses beside ours, which Chuck owns, all three of us had weddings during our week. Chuck was there during our check in and addressed any issues we had!
Being polite is the way to go! We will defiantly be back!
We have never stayed in the Remote Area of Corolla before. There were some challenges getting to and from the house from the hard surface roads, but it was all worth it! The home was well laid out and nicely appointed. Beds were comfortable and a very warm setting. After we finally figured out all the settings, we thoroughly enjoyed the Theater Room. It even had a 9' pool table. The boys loved it. We regularly saw wild horses, almost every day wondering about in the early morning. Overall we had a great time and will be doing this again in a couple years!
IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO OBX or OCEAN BEACH READ THIS!
Where to begin? To say that what this house guarentees you as far as even working bathrooms is a stretch.
Our family planned this trip over a year. As the anticipation and excitement grew as the time for us all to gather in the OBX, it was deflated upon arrival. After our entire family, 32 people between the ages of 78 and 12 months, arrived we quickly noticed this house was not ideal for us or anyone.
Not only was the house filthy, bathrooms were not functional and the appliances didn't work right, the ammenities included were not functional at all.
Let's start with the first moments of arrival:
When the first group of us arrived (I was the first one to physically drive up to the house) we were early and were told we would not be admitted into the house until the cleaners were done. No problem! It was a beautiful day so we hung out at the pool that comes with the house. Great. Before the cleaners left they said they couldn't let us in, but there was no lock on the sliding glass door on the ground level. They also told us to be careful because there were two women walking around and finding the open doors and breaking into the homes and stealing from the houses and the guests staying there. Upon noticing that there was no dowel available to put in place to lock the doors at night, the caretaker was immediately contacted and he brought us something the next morning. NOT GOOD ENOUGH! With 15 children and 12 month old in the house this is unacceptable.
After close inspection of the house we noticed the furniture is dated, stained, broken, falling apart. Windows once opend fall off their tracks. Sliding glass doors in bedrooms and in the main common area on level 3 also do not lock and did not come with a dowel. The security of the guests is completely looked over by the homeowner and the rental company.
Upon arrival the half bathroom toilet would not flush
The master bedroom was dirty. The master bathroom had more mold in it than I had seen anywhere else in the world i've traveled. The lightbulbs over the vanity were out. The shower door was broken and fell off its tracks if you touched it. The speakers throughout the house didn't work. The toilet flushed though.
The common area was a wreck. The furniture is beat up, stained, broken, and neglected. There's a thick layer of dust on the ceiling fans. The vents are rusted and spraying out a brown dust substance.
The main kitchen has a refrigerator that doesn't cool until you've been there for three days so don't do major food shopping until the refrigerator cools.
Be careful with the oven. It will lock you out for 72 hours in recognition of the "Sabbath". The surfacel light under the microwave didn't work either.
All this is simple to fix. How about the SHATTERED window in the same area? We have kids and a 12 month old. The maintenance person said he contacted the owner for weeks about the window. NOTHING WAS DONE!
Be sure to check the teflon pans. A lot of the teflon is scratched off which is unhealthy and cancer-causing.
Oh and clean the grill because its probably filthy like how we found it.
This is where the majority of the bedrooms are. No locks on the sliding glass doors here either. Don't try to turn down the temperature on the A/C when its 98 degrees out. It won't let you. You are locked out of the A/C system.
One bathroom on this floor did not function. Repairs had to be made 2x.
The laundry machines are on this floor as well. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers, but one set didn't work while we were there. Apparently, "the parts had been ordered."
Want to watch TV in any of the rooms or maybe the common area? Good luck. There are no cables attached to either the DVD players, the cable boxes or both.
In one bedroom the towel rack was broken off the wall with no intention of fixing it, you'll have to put your towel somewhere else a little less convenient.
The room where the baby was sleeping had no lock on the sliding glass door. A piece of furniture was placed there temporarily, thank god there were no fires!
The movie theater all the kids had been waiting for! All summer we planned a big movie night...sorry! The movie theater (which is a TV on the wall, not a movie theater screen) had no connection to the DVD player and the USB cable connector was broken. The surround sound also was broken. Now you might think maybe we're idiots and couldn't figure it out. We had 3 electricians and 2 engineers. The cables were not there.
The "ice maker" was filthy. The scooper was dirty. The refrigerator worked though!
The pool table was dirty and stained.
More dated furniture and the decor was poor.(rhyme)
The pool was BLISS!!!! But its only cleaned at the beginning of your stay. Don't worry they leave a broken skimmer for you to use to clean it.
All sarcasm aside THIS IS SERIOUS! BE CAREFUL WITH THE HOT TUB! It is not properly grounded. Two members of our family were electrocuted. You cannot dip your fingers in the water while standing outside the hot tub. IT WILL SHOCK YOU!! An adult and a child both sustained injury from doing this.
But how's the beach? Well why don't you try relaxing down by the water? Well as long as you're good at playing FROGGER you'll get there. Yes two lanes of traffic driving by the dunes and two lanes of traffic driving by the water. PLEASE WATCH YOUR CHILDREN! The cars can't stop. If they stop they get stuck. Be aware there are tow trucks just waiting for people to get stuck. My aunt and uncle got stuck and just needed a little pull, $200 later they were freed for 2 minutes of help. And they were in a Suburban.
Needless to say after a 6 weeks of trying to come to some resolution with the rental company (Twiddy) and the homeowner, nothing was solved. The rental company offered $200 towards our next stay... WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!
When we went to the Twiddy office to complain. Two other families were there complaining about the same things. Filthy homes, neglected houses, disrepair, and the amount of money spent for the amount of inconvenience.

This beachfront house has not been taken care of! It is in desperate need of a heavy cleaning. It is not maintained at all... a broken window, broken screens, sliding glass doors did not lock, refrigerator was not keeping food cold, there is more. The home theater did not work. There is sand, dirt and stains on the pool table. This house is up the beach and obviously not a priority for the owner or for the rental company Twiddy. (Dont be fooled by how nicely maintained the Twiddy office is- its not what their homes look like! There were other tenants in the office when we were complaining just like we were.) Do not rent it! The owner has three homes that are names of Three Authors. I would never go back to any of these houses nor would I go to Outerbanks.
Oh and if you are sitting on the beach if you dont get hit by a car you could do some car shopping. While you sit in your bathing suit relaxing there are two lanes of cars driving up the beach on the shoreline and two lanes of cars driving down the beach behind you. Please keep a close eye on your kids- you cant hear the cars coming because of the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Unbelievable! Cant believe this is legal!!!
